Dharma Chinta, a Cybertruck owner from Washington, says he traded in his Toyota RAV4 for a Cybertruck and couldn’t be happier.

He has been a big fan of the Cybertruck for quite some time and reserved one in 2019, when Elon Musk first announced it.

However, by the end of 2023, after Tesla revealed the final specs and pricing, Dharma said he was priced out of buying the vehicle.

For the past two years, Dharma had been waiting for the price to drop before making a purchase.

Now, he says he found an amazing deal on the secondary market and finally traded in his Toyota RAV4 for the all-electric truck.

The happy Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.

He wrote…

“Just want to tell my story: I ordered a Cybertruck in 2019, the day Elon revealed it to the world, but the price was too high for me, so I didn't get one until now.

I started looking at used ones and bought a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck, non-foundation series, with 8,000 miles, at a Toyota dealership, trading in my 2016 Toyota RAV4.

The price was $74,000, and after trade-in and negotiations, I got it for $56K plus taxes.

I've been waiting for this price point and felt it was a very good deal. I love every bit of it—an amazing truck.”

Dharma seems extremely happy with his Cybertruck and feels that moving from a Toyota RAV4 to a Cybertruck is definitely a step up.

Looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners agree that paying $56,000 for an 8,000-mile All-Wheel-Drive Cybertruck, even when trading in a vehicle, is an excellent deal.

A fellow owner, Sebastian, wrote…

“$56,000? That seems very low to me. That’s an amazing deal. Congrats.”

Another owner, Antonio Ruiz, added…

“Sometimes you win! Awesome.”

“Great deal!”

Timothy Waugh shared…

“That was a great deal! I paid $70,500 for a new one after tax credits, military discount, and referral credits. According to Kelly Blue Book, it is worth $77K, so I’m doing great. I bought it in March with 8K miles already on it.”

Chad Gatewood also chimed in…

“I’m in the same boat. I think you got a great deal! I could see paying $56,000. Not $100,000.”

Overall, fellow Cybertruck owners agree that $56,000 is a steal for an 8,000-mile AWD Cybertruck.

But, looking at the numbers closely, it seems Dharma might have been able to get an even better deal.

Remember, he traded in a 2016 Toyota RAV4 to reach that price. Given its condition, accident history, mileage, and trim, a 2016 RAV4 could be worth between $8,000 and $17,000 for trade-in.

If we estimate the trade-in value at around $12,000, then Dharma paid about $68,000 for the used Cybertruck.

A new Cybertruck has a starting price of $80,000, which means Dharama still paid $12,000 off the brand-new price.

However, if he had bought the truck a few weeks earlier and avoided the secondary market, he might have paid roughly the same or even less for a brand-new vehicle.

The federal EV tax credit available at the time would have reduced the price by $7,500.

Tesla also offers referral credits that anyone could use to lower the price by an additional $1,000.

This combined could have brought the purchase price down to around $71,500.

However, there is one more benefit to buying brand new. If Dharma financed the vehicle, Tesla’s 0% APR financing might have made the monthly payments even cheaper than what the purchase price suggests.

Despite all this, Dharma still seems very happy with this deal. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
