Blake, a Cybertruck owner from Michigan, says multiple freeze-thaw cycles have caused the glue holding his truck together to fail.
He notes that after the latest freezing temperature, his panels have started to delaminate from the underlying structure.
He adds that he can now hear the partially detached panels vibrating while driving.
This is definitely not ideal, and the frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.
He writes…
“Panel adhesive separation after freeze-thaw cycles – front driver’s side rattles over 50 mph
Hey Cybertruck Crew,
I took delivery of my Foundation Series Cybertruck in May 2024. This is my second winter, and we have, of course, had several freeze-thaw cycles in Michigan. After the latest ones, I noticed adhesive failure on two panels: visible gaps/separation.
The front driver’s side is rattling like crazy over 50 mph due to looseness
I submitted a service request via the Tesla app. Anyone else seeing panel delamination or adhesive issues? Especially rattles at speed. How’s service handling it?
Thanks for any input!”
Below his post, Blake attached a photo and a video highlighting the problem.
The photo shows the truck’s panels beginning to detach from the underlying structure at several points.
In the video, Blake also demonstrates how the stainless steel trim on the top of the door can be easily made to vibrate with his finger.
Clearly, the glue is starting to fail at multiple spots, and what is even more surprising is that the parts of Blake’s Cybertruck affected by this issue are not similar to the earlier reported wider adhesive failures.
Tesla has already issued a recall notice for glue failures affecting the off-road lightbar, the side applique, and the sail, which is the triangular stainless steel structure on the side of the bed.
However, in Blake’s case, the glue failure seems to be occurring on the front bumper and the doors.
This is definitely not ideal, and looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners shared that they, too, are facing similar adhesive-related issues.
A fellow Cybertruck owner from North Carolina writes…
“That’s awful.
My Cybertruck has adhesive separation on the front doors, and both have been replaced. Hoping I don’t get your issue because that is terrible, wow.”
A second Cybertruck owner, Reid from New Hampshire, writes…
“Tesla had to repurchase my Cybertruck because all my panels had this issue, but now Tesla is using new glue, so the panels you will get will have new glue.”
A third Cybertruck owner from Pennsylvania writes…
It's frustrating that I can’t bring my Cybertruck to Tesla service before similar problems arise. I repeatedly took it in to fix the metal strip above the window, but they refused, claiming it was fine.
Eventually, my truck was included in the recall. I haven’t gone yet because the service center is far away. Could this become a recall issue, too? I just dislike their skepticism about customer complaints.
The problem is that they wait until something flies off the truck.
A fourth Cybertruck owner, Tom from Missouri, writes…
“When these trucks are out of warranty, and we have these issues, what are we going to do? Rivet the panels on?”
A fifth Cybertruck owner writes…
“The issue is that the other panels can’t actually fall off because of some fasteners, but they will get super loose and rattle, so most likely they will only replace them upon customer complaint.”
Overall, a lot of Cybertruck owners seem to be dealing with adhesive failures. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
