Mercedes-Benz just keeps rolling out the high-performance hits with details on the all-new 2013 CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. Last week we gave you some information on the high-performance wagon, but Mercedes has announced the full details on the exciting new production sport wagon. The announcement from Mercedes gives us details on the new 5.5-liter V8, seven-speed transmission, sports suspension, and the designo wooden luggage compartment floor. And if that weren’t enough, Mercedes is also offering an exclusive “Edition 1” model with more horsepower.

It starts with the high-performance powerplant on the new CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. The luxury wagon will be motivated by a 5.5-liter V8 biturbo gasoline engine that includes the latest direct-injection. The biturbocharged powerplant gets a number of other performance goodies like spray-guided combustion, piezo injectors, air/water intercooling, generator management and ECO start/stop function. This all results in a massive 525 horsepower and 516 lb. ft. of torque. The ultra-perfromance wagon will go from 0-62 in 4.4 seconds. Now that will be the fastest grocery hauler on the planet.

“Edition 1” with more power and special features

And if that isn’t enough to get your heart pumping, Mercedes has announced a special “Edition 1” CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake that will have an additional 32 horsepower and more torque. Mercedes says the Edition 1 will go from 0-62 mph a in a lightning quick 4.3 seconds. Both cars will feature a sport-tuned exhaust system with twin-chromed tailpipes that will allow the throaty sound of the AMG V8 to be heard by the driver.

The special offering will also get a number of high-quality features not found on the standard model. The special Edition 1 will come with a designo magno allanite grey paint on the exterior, a unique designo platinum white pearl leather with metallised finish for the AMG sports seats, armrests, front and rear console and door panels. The Edition 1 will also receive AMG carbon fibre/black piano trim throughout the cabin. Passion black nappa leather seats are also available with matching color on the dashboard and beltlines.

AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed sports transmission

Both 5.5-liter V8’s will be mated to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission that will be equipped with four individual transmission modes as well as automatic double declutching and Race Start functions. The transmission will come with Sport, Sport plus and Manual modes for more responsive spirited driving.

The 2013 CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake also gets a sport suspension with AMG Ride Control for greater handling and stability during high-speed cornering. The sport system automatically adjusts the suspension to reduce body roll in the corners. And to help the ultra-performance car to stop quickly, Mercedes uses ventilated and perforated brake discs on all four corners. Optional AMG ceramic high-performance composite brakes with larger discs and specially painted brake callipers with "AMG Carbon Ceramic" lettering are available for those who need even more braking performance.

Interior treatments and AMG extras

Special mention needs to made for the optional designo wooden luggage compartment floor. This luggage floor is made of high-quality American cherry wood, and inlaid work using darker smoked oak, cut into three millimeter strips using laser technology, to enhance the design of the wooden floor.

Also optionally available for the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake is the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround sound system with 16-channel DSP amplifier, ICEpower amplifier, total output of 1200 watts and 14 high-end loudspeakers.

Mercedes offers other AMG goodies to enhance the driving dynamics and visual effects of the new performance wagon. Features include AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre package, AMG trim elements in carbon fibre/black piano lacquer, AMG rear axle differential lock, white Illuminated AMG door sill panels at the front.

Two wheel options are available, AMG light-alloy wheels featuring a 5-twin-spoke design, painted in titanium grey with a high-sheen finish, and fitted with 255/35 R 19 rubber at the front and 285/30 R 19 at the rear. And a 10-spoke design, painted in matt black with a high-sheen rim flanges, and fitted with 255/35 R 19 tires at the front and 285/30 R 19 at the rear.

The CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake is truly an incredible driving machine that offers both high-performance and a functional design. Look for the launch of the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake and the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake "Edition 1" in Europe starting in October 2012. It’s a shame these super wagons won’t be making it to U.S. shores.
