Buy The 2024 Subaru WRX? Why You Should Wait A Year Or Two

The 2024 WRX is the same model except for the 2024 WRX TR. Here is why you should wait a year to buy the 2025 Subaru WRX.

Should you buy the 2024 Subaru WRX? The 2024 WRX is the same model except for the 2024 WRX TR and a few safety upgrades. But the horsepower and torque are the same for all trim levels.

Subaru did not change the 2.4-liter turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine in the 2024 WRX. It still has 271 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It’s a good engine, but fans want more power

WRX gets one new suspension and chassis upgrade

One suspension upgrade for the WRX is new for 2024. The sport sedan “has been further enhanced with additional structural reinforcement in the floor and rear suspension area,” according to Subaru. The Camden, N.J. automaker does not say what the changes mean for driving performance.

The significant change to the 2024 WRX is new safety tech upgrades.

For 2024, EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard on WRX, including models equipped with a manual transmission for the first time.

Subaru says EyeSight on models with manual transmission feature Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Prevention, and Pre-Collision Brake Assist (Pre-Collision Throttle Management is included on models equipped with SPT).

The 2024 WRX has five trim levels: Base, Premium, Limited, TR, and GT.

Here is the new pricing with increases and a model guide.

The 2024 WRX 6-speed manual trim level starts at $33,855. The WRX Premium 6-speed manual is $35,755, The WRX Premium with Subaru Performance Transmission (SPT) is $37,105, the WRX Limited 6-speed manual is $40,135, the WRX Limited SPT is $41,685, the all-new WRX TR 6-speed manual is $42,775, and WRX GT SPT is $45,335. Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,120).

How much did the 2024 Subaru WRX price increase?

  • WRX Base +$2,230
  • WRX Premium +$1,630
  • WRX Premium SPT +$930
  • WRX Limited +$1,620
  • WRX Limited SPT +$920
  • WRX GT SPT +$920

Destination and delivery fees increased by $100 on all trims.

Why did the 2024 WRX price increase so much?

Subaru Corporation has to recoup the cost of the new manual transmission and EyeSight compatibility technology. Research and development are expensive, and customers have to pay for it.

The Subaru WRX TR is the new trim level. I have covered the latest model in multiple stories.

That’s the 2024 Subaru WRX upgrades, and there may be reason to wait until the 2025 models arrive.

Subaru changes the WRX more slowly than mainstream models like the Outback, Crosstrek, and Forester. Those models typically get refreshed in the third year of its lifecycle.

The 2022 Subaru WRX was the year it received a complete remodel and a new 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. For 2023 and 2024, there were no engine upgrades. The WRX may get new power upgrades in year four of its lifecycle, but Subaru has not announced or confirmed this. They could wait until the fifth year of its life cycle in 2026.

Will Subaru bring back the WRX hatchback body style?

I have covered this in detail in previous reports. This is the big question about the WRX. Its sedan body style is dated and is not a current body style performance fans want. Fans want a hot WRX hatch. Whether Subaru will bring back the 5-door hatch is anyone’s guess. Subaru is tight-lipped about future model changes.

If you aren’t excited about the 2024 Subaru WRX, wait a year or two. The WRX will get a refresh and possibly new 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer engine power upgrades. But with Subaru, there are no absolutes.
