Toyota Prius Is Canada's Green Car of the Year for 2017

The 2017 Toyota Prius takes home top spot in Canadian Green Car of the Year voting.

The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) has just named the 2017 Toyota Prius hybrid the Canadian Green Car of the Year. The Prius' outstanding fuel efficiency of just 4.5L / 100 km city/highway combined is just one reason the world's top-selling green car is also Canada's top choice.

Cyril Dimitris, Vice-President, Toyota Canada Inc commented on the Prius honors, saying, "Toyota is committed to maintaining its leadership position in designing, engineering and building environmentally-advanced vehicles that meet the many demands of today's drivers – which is why the 2017 Prius sets new standards for efficiency and emissions even as it provides owners with more style and driving fun." Dimitris added, "We're delighted that members of AJAC agree, and thank them for this important award."

In addition to the Prius obvious advantages in terms of low CO2 production, value, range, and durability, the Prius is also Canada's safest midsize green car. The Prius is unique in that it comes standard with active safety features standard across all trims.

Heading into a slower 2017 Toyota has held its own in vehicle sales with year to date sales through the end of February within about 4% of last year's numbers. However, the Prius has taken off. Its sales are up over 200% over 2016 year to date and February was stronger than January.

The Prius' sibling, the RAV4 Hybrid took home top honors as Canada's Green Utility vehicle of the year.
