Phase 2 - Repair
Toyota's second phase will consist of a repair made by your local dealer at no cost to you. Any authorized Toyota Dealership can determine if a condition is covered by this Customer Support Program, not just the one from which the vehicle was purchased.

Rav 4 Limiited with pearlized white paint has peeled to the metal on the top of the car. Already paid to have another large spot repaired a few years ago. The gentleman who repaired it said it’s a common problem with Toyota white paint. Really don’t want to keep paying for this!

My 2012 white Highlander has a chunk of paint peeling on the roof. I was told Highlanders weren't covered as well. I also have had an ongoing sunroof leak since 2015 with constant water in the floorboard and moldy carpet. Car has been taken apart and determined it just bad design with the drain lines. Drain lines are blown out but it's a constant reoccurring problem. It's been a nightmare.

2008 Toyota Highlander Blizzard Pearl. The roof, hood, left and right fender are all peeling. It started by the paint appearing to crackle like broken glass. Then the edges started pealing up and finally popping off. I have never had a car do this before. I do not drive on gravel and I have a paved driveway but it looks like my car was blasted with gravel. Been in the shop over a month and then got denied. Currently under appeal. I specifically bought toyota for the trade-in value. My Highlander looks so terrible I probably couldn't get $500 for it.

I have a 2012 Tundra. It is white and the paint is peeling on both sides of the bed. It started about a year ago and is getting worse now.

I have a 2007 Highlander I bought from a friend. It has this same issue. It looks like it was painted one time! Now I have spots coming off just like in this picture. Clear coat? Did they even use clear coat? (That was a joke). I just found out about this today from a customer of mine, while I was complaining about the crappy paint on my Highlander.

I have a 2007 GX470 that is outside the coverage window by a few month. Paint peeling on doors, roof and near headlights on both sides. Lexus said it is not covered and there is nothing they can do. It's infuriating!

I just purchased a 2014 Toyota RAV4 Limited with Blizzard Pearl White paint and noticed no paint peels/chips. Looks as good as when it rolled off the original lot. CarFax had nothing to say about the paint or wrecks on the door. I also noticed the list left out RAV4's. Were there no issues with the RAV's and the same paint?

Any advice when a dealership will not contact you back for months. Went in for the photo portion back in April and they will not contact me back.

We purchased our 2014 RAV4 with pearl white paint. Dealership said they detailed it for us but we found food from the last 8 years under the rear seat. We took it to a local detailer to have the inside and outside cleaned, even had the foggy headlights brought back to near new, at least you had great lighting. When we went to pick it up, the detailer showed us where the paint lifted (bubbled) when he washed it but it had laid back down after it dried. Sunday November 6, our daughter was home with the RAV4, it had rained and you could see the lifted (bubbled) paint. When we mentioned it to the local Toyota Dealer, they said that the detailer had caused the paint to bubble when detailing. Has anyone else had the paint bubble when wet? I have no confidence in our local Toyota dealer after their comment.

Hey all -

2014 Prius, blizzard white paint, 90K miles

I've been having this paint peeling and chipping issue in the last year that I'm seeing talked about. I went ahead and called Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-888-270-9371. They let me know I was eligible for an extended warranty program, and this issue is documented. I'll be heading to the dealership to get it assessed. Based on the comments here I thought they wouldn't, but it sounds like they will be covering this. On another note, as of a few years ago my spoiler has some serious paint fading and chipping, and my roof has what appear to be paint spatter wear on the paint (it isn't easy to explain). For all this starting to occur on a less than 8 year old car, at this point there must've been some kind of issue in the build process...

I hope this helps someone out there because I had no notice Toyota was doing this until I landed here in the comment section. Thanks.

2017 Tacoma SR5 Quad cab 040 white started peeling one year past 3 year warranty. Initially told by dealer recall only applied to certain cars. Based on latest notification returned to dealer a got appointment for “tape test” at approved repair shop. Paint easily removed from every panel but tailgate. They said a month to prepare document package and 4-6 months for Toyota to evaluate and respond. Even though failure is due to poor paint/application expect a lengthy battle to receive fair treatment. I will update when response from Toyota is received.

Toyota made an error when painting white cars. They either skipped a step or left out a necessary component of the paint. Therefore large sheets of the paint peeled off down to the bare metal or primer This happened on the roof of our 2012 Scion xb and Toyota had only the roof repainted. We were told at the time, that this would affect only the roof, but that is not true. First week in Dec 2022 I noticed a quarter size place on the hood of car that the paint was missing., so I used factory touch paint. By second week in December there was no paint on the hood, it peeled off down to the metal. Waited until after Christmas to take car to Toyota dealership,, only to be told I just missed the cutoff date, so Toyota would not do the honorable thing and correct their manufacturing error This is not what I expect from Toyota. We bought Toyotas knowing we would not be able to purchase cars in the future. When you buy a new car you do not expect the paint to peel off in sheets, down to the bare metal. We expect Toyota to rectify their error. This will ruin Toyotas reputation and it is embarrassing to drive around a car with no paint. Which will start to rust. This is not our fault it is Toyotas responsibility. They should have repainted the whole car when they knew they had a problem. Our 2018 Toyota Tacoma is also white, so we will soon be driving around two Toyota junkers.

The original Pearl Blizzard White (C/TR: 070) paint on my Prius 2013 began peeling last week on both passenger side doors. It starts at the seal between the glass and the door; right now I have a 2" by 1" patch of exposed primer, but it is expanding. The Prius is not covered by the 'Extended Warrantee' for the RAV4, etc. but It seems that Toyota might have sent a 'Ciustomer Support Program ZKG Notification' to some Prius owners. I will go to the dealer today and report on the interaction.

I have a 2011 Toyota Avalon with white pearl paint. After leaving car wash on Sat 1/21/2023 I noticed missing paint the size of a quarter on the roof of car. Drove straight to dealer, they said warranty expired last month on 12/11/2022. Called Toyota Cust Svs on 1/21/2023 to ask Toyota to pls fix the paint. This morning the area of missing paint is about the size of a frisbee. Waiting to hear back from Toyota. I live in California, vehicle is garaged when not driving, only has 110,000 miles on itl

2011 Avalon ... Earlier this year, I've battled Toyota online and on the telephone. They refuse to do anything. Toyota says the extended white paint warranty ended December 2022, period! Go away! I didn’t buy the car new so original/previous owner only knew of the recall/ext warranty, I didn’t know anything about it until earlier this year when we got the used car (we saw paint info on a forum). (We also had a white 2009 Avalon that I also wish we had known about it before.)

My 2014 RAV 4 is peeling on the roof & side door. I took it to the dealer today & they will schedule a paint repair ONLY on the areas that are peeling. I asked about what happens if other areas start to peel, & the service person said that if that happens they will fix that in the future through 2024,
From what other people are saying, that is not true. What do I do? I believe that if areas are peeling now, and the car was primed & painted all at the same time, why would I believe that nothing else will start to peel. We wash this car by hand. We do not go thru car washes. I am really upset at the moment. I have had a toyota in previous years & never had any problems. I believe that since Obviously this is a TOYOTA ISSUE - they should re-paint the entire car & satisfy their customers once & for all.

Following up on my post from January 22. Toyota customer service called me back on January 23, 2023. I explained that the paint started to peel and the area is expanding. Toyota explained that they voluntarily extended the warranty on the paint for 10 years and then added an extra 1 year as indicated on the letter I received. They are not willing to provide an exception, even though the paint started to peel 40 days after the warranty expired. I took my car to a paint and body shop. They estimated the cost to repaint the roof at approximately $1500. Since there's a possibility other areas of the car may begin to peel, I decided to not paint the roof. The paint shop recommended I purchase some automotive paint on line (there's a website that will match paint colors). I ordered the primer and a can of paint for about $70 and will touch it up myself. I wonder if Toyota was forced to do a recall, instead of extending warranties for 10 years, if they would be required to repaint all affected vehicles due to what is clearly a manufacturing defect. I, along with others, am extremely disappointed in Toyota.

Ciro P (not verified)    February 7, 2023 - 6:18PM

The paint peeled off the headliner/roof and Toyota rectified the issue after some resistance. Now the rest of the car is peeling and I called Toyota and was told that the extended warranty on the paint expired in 12/22. Research showed that a letter was sent to owners saying that the warranty was ending. I never rec'd the letter. I am 5 weeks passed the deadline and am getting no satisfaction from Toyota as they say the warranty expired. How was I to know as I was never notified? So very disappointed. Goodby Toyota. Lots of niceties and respect when shelling out 40 g's for a car but poor followup when there is a problem. They would not honor a warranty that was 5 weeks pass dueand did not notify the customer of the expiration.

My parents purchased their white 2017 Camry new and within 2 1/2 - 3 years the paint started blistering off of the door, a-pillar, and roof.
