Multiple media outlets are reporting that Volkswagen has pulled the ID. Buzz from the American market. There will be no 2026 model year for the van, which was only introduced in late 2024. As of Q3, VW’s last reporting period, VW had only delivered 4,934 vans in calendar 2025.

The ID. Buzz attracted a lot of attention from automotive media and influencers, virtually none of whom purchased one. The ID. Buzz blended nostalgia with a modern battery-electric powertrain. Unfortunately, it was also about 50% higher in cost than the price of America’s top-selling pair of green minivans, the Toyota Sienna (hybrid) and the Chrysler Pacifica (Plug-in Hybrid). In 2025, Toyota will delivery roughly twenty times the number of electrified minivans to U.S. buyers than VW did the all-electric Buzz.

Ironically, at the time of this story’s creation, Volkswagen’s media page for the U.S. led with a gas-powered VW minivan story. Its second and third banner stories were also about gas-powered vehicles.

Not every media member who was offered a chance to test the ID. Buzz swooned over it. Our alumnus, Aaron Turpen, had the van recently and said, “I just abjectly did not like this vehicle.” Stepping back from Aaron’s negative review for a moment, let’s consider that Aaron is a longtime minivan owner, and he drives one daily. Aaron pointed out that “It seems to exist entirely on nostalgia, and that is not a long-term strategy for any vehicle.” Once again, Aaron has been proven to be an oracle when it comes to automotive predictions.

Volkswagen no longer supports the automotive media in the Northeast, so we don’t have a direct confirmation of the status of the VW ID. Buzz. We’ll provide two links for readers who wish to learn more about the Buzz’s departure from the U.S. market.
