The electric automaker has a problem with the size of its safety display technology and has recalled more than 2 million vehicles to fix the problem which it will do with an over-the-air software fix. There is also a reported problem with Tesla steering t

Teslas hasn’t been a good week as the automaker has had to recall nearly every car built for a major update. Indeed, the automaker has recalled 2.2 million vehicles – “nearly all the cars that it has sold in the U.S.,” according to CBS – because of a problem with the instrument panel display.

“The font size on its instrument panel is too small for its brake, park, and anti-lock braking system warning lights.”

This makes the warnings hard to read “because the font size is too small on its instrument panel.”

According to CBS, this “makes the lights hard to read” which can potentially lead to accidents.

The fond size violates federal safety standards, the safety agency said.

The vehicles involved in the recall include:

  • 2012-2023 Model S
  • 2016-2023 Model S
  • 2017-2023 Model 3
  • 2019-2024 Model Y
  • 2024 Cybertruck

According to documentation filed with the NHTSA, Tesla is unaware of any crashes, injuries, or deaths linked to “incorrect warning light fonts.”

Tesla plans to fix the problem with a “free over-the-air software update. The automaker will mail owner notification letters starting March 30.”

In another issue, the NHTSA has opened a “preliminary evaluation about reports of power steering problems in some Teslas. The report noted that there” have been 2,388 complaints of “drivers losing steering control in some 2023 Tesla Model 3 and Y vehicles.”

The safety agency has said that it has begun an engineering analysis about the issue, a step taken before” a recall is issued.

Tesla has had a series of recalls lately. Last month, the automaker recalled “nearly 200,000 vehicles because the backup camera can malfunction while the” vehicles are in reverse.

And, according to CBS, in December, the automaker recalled more than 2 million vehicles across “four different models to fix a flaw with its Autopilot system.” The earlier major recall resulted from two investigations by NHTSA into some crashes involving Tesla vehicles. Some of the crashes relating to the Autopilot tech were deadly. Some of those crashes also involved crashes in which first-response vehicles were struck by Teslas. Other crashes reportedly involved Teslas that stopped in the middle of highways. The December recall followed a “years-long investigation” involving Tesla vehicles.

There have also been reports recently that Cybertrucks have problems with their Tesla tires.

"...To Fix Major Problem With Display Visibility." I do not call a change of one font point a 'major' problem!
