The Ramcharger has been singled out as one of the most anticipated vehicles for 2025 but Ram is pushing back production for both the Ramcharger and the all-electric Ram 1500 REV. The Ramcharger will reportedly be delayed until the first quarter of 2026 and the Ram 1500 REV has been pushed to the summer of 2027 and will become a 2028 model. The news was first reported by Automotive News and its sister publication Crains Detroit. Suppliers confirmed that orders for parts for the electrified vehicles had been delayed.
Crains received email confirmation from Stellantis spokesperson, Jodi Tinson.
“Stellantis continues to reassess its product strategy in North America to align it with our competitive advantage with the Range Extended Ram and in light of slowing consumer demand for half-ton BEV pickups,” spokeswoman Jodi Tinson said in an email. “Our plan ensures we are offering customers a range of trucks with flexible powertrain options that best meet their needs.”
This is the second time that Ram has pushed the production of both trucks back. I wrote about the first delay in December of 2024. Ram was supposed to launch the BEV in 2025 but then moved it until 2026, now it will debut in 2027 if we see it at all.
Ram’s Decision to Launch the Ram 1500 Ramcharger First
“The decision to launch Ramcharger first was driven by overwhelming consumer interest, maintaining a competitive advantage in the technology and slowing industry demand for half-ton BEV pickups.”
It appears that demand has fallen even further. Ram cancelled its extended range version of the BEV. Stellantis has decided to produce HEMI engines again and I would bet that we will see another Ram TRX before we see the Ramcharger. Both Ram and Dodge are making strategic decisions about building gas-powered vehicles that are in demand while scaling back plans for EVs. The Dodge Charger Daytona is a perfect example of Stellantis shifting production based on demand.
The Sterling Heights (Michigan) Assembly Plant is the primary home for Ram 1500 production, including electrified and internal combustion engine versions. It will continue to operate whether it builds trucks with the SST and RHO engines, HEMIs or with electrified technology.
Trump’s Election Key to Ram’s Decision
President-elect Donald Trump has made it clear that he does not support the government mandated push to go all electric. He has suggested that Republicans should eliminate the tax rebates encouraging drivers to buy electric vehicles and roll back the mandates for higher fuel economy ratings, which several automakers have said are unattainable. With the immediate pressure off, some automakers are rethinking their current strategy. Demand is increasing for hybrids and the decision to launch the Ram 1500 Ramcharger first appears to be a result of that push toward hybrids, rather than pure BEVs.
2026 Ram 1500 Ramcharger
As I have reported previously, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger could be the best of both worlds. The Ramcharger would have incredible range because of an on-board engine that recharges the battery.
According to Ram,
“The all-new 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger with a class-shattering targeted range of up to 690 miles is the latest example of how Ram will offer customers benchmark gas and electric vehicles delivering disruptive, leading-edge advanced technology. The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger features a 92 kilowatt-hour battery pack, paired with an on-board 130 kW generator, sending power to 250 kW front and 238 kW rear electric drive modules (EDMs). Vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-home bi-directional charging affords the Ram 1500 Ramcharger the flexibility to charge another Stellantis battery-electric vehicle or provide power back to the grid. Targeted performance figures include a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds, 663 horsepower and over 615 lb.-ft. of torque, up to a best-in-class 14,000 pounds towing with a class 5 hitch and a best-in-class maximum payload capacity of 2,625 pounds.”
