Honda acknowledges possible 2015 CR-V engine vibration

Via a video published April,7 American Honda Motor Company addresses reported intermittent engine vibration noted in 2015 CR-V. Timely!

Torque News received a question Tuesday night from a 2015 CR-V owner. Raj's CR-V vibrated in the driver’s seat and steering wheel at low idle. Was this vibration normal?

American Honda Motor Company released a consumer video Tuesday in response to an acknowledged engine or transmission component vibration reported by owners in (some) 2015 CR-V SUVs equipped with CVT transmission.

According to reporting consumers: The vibration can be intermittent, occurring most frequently at idle or below 2200 rpm while driving. Honda assures CR-V owners that there is no danger of component failure at this time, and that the motor company is actively analyzing the cause and effects of the reported vibration and possible component, product upgrade.

Frankly, spending several hours driving the much improved and upgraded 2015 Honda CR-V, was not enough time for Torque News to pick up on any “excessive” vibration generated through the nations # 1 selling SUV. And, if so noted, we would have most likely written this slight annoyance off as a characteristic of the EarthDreams ™ direct injected engine and CVT transmission.

Readers report to Torque News-Honda that the initial vibration may not be noted immediately, and may be intermittent as reported by Honda.

While Torque News did find the high pressure direct injected 1-VTEC 4 cylinder gasoline engine to have a diesel-like idle rattle, we didn’t note any excessive interior vibration in our test vehicle. We’ve been assured by Honda that direct injected engines have their own unique “sound” at idle.

However, American Honda Motors is exploring the cause and effect of the noted vibration, and will keep consumers informed when and if a source of and subsequent fix for the noted annoyance is found.

In the mean time Honda always recommends that if an excessive vibration of any kind is experienced in your car or light truck, a trip to the dealership is recommended as a safeguard against possible product failure. Honda further states that they appreciate owner feedback, and always welcome your comment.

I bought a CRV 2016 LX 4WD, and the vibration is not at idle in mine, it has an annoying vibration or rattle when you start driving with sustained acceleration and once it reaches around 2200-2400 rpm it starts rattling and the vibration feels how it sounds at the front and the sound moves to the rear, I took it to the dealership and they were working the entire day, they felt that sound, they drove another one and they didn't hear it in that one, the problem was reported to Honda, hopefully they find something, my first Honda and sadly disappointed with the service and product quality, I had several brands including fancy Mercedes, Audi and by far Toyota stands out among all of them, I regret getting this vehicle, with 200 miles and I don't expect too much of this vehicle to be honest. Sad.

We traded our 2008 CRV in for the 2015 EX model. My wife remarked how smooth and quiet test drive was. Within a month, the vibrations started. Ours is most noticeable at idle. After 3 service visits and the three published "fixes" in Honda's Service Bulletin, the driver's seat side is better, but passenger side still vibrates "significantly" as many of you describe. I am now awaiting a call from my dealer who reached out for a corporate IT Tech person to come in and check our car. I also did begin proceedings to file a Lemon Law claim. Safety aside, this problem diminidhes the value of your vehicle and we are entitled to a fix and compensation under the law. Not cool Honda!

Some random thoughts. Those of you who have snowmobiles understand the basics of a cvt, but instead of a rubber belt there is a metal one . sometimes when you torque on the sled you burn the belt which is why we usually carry a spare and hopefully it only takes a few minutes to change. .,anyway....
Now think about this for a minute ...the fluid in the cvt must be - a. "Slippery" enough to lubricate the bearings and - b. "sticky" enough so the metal belt won't slip and create all kinds of heat and probably why you have to change the fluid frequently because the additives break down, To me a.+b,= problems ,also a cvt with present technology can't be used for heavier and high hp cars ,too much heat. The vibration may be the metal belt coming off the "pulley" and sticking for a sec good luck fixing that - and lasting for 150k . You honda engineers are better than that, Remember real life conditions rarely equal lab testing just say'n,,,,,

Bring it back to your dealership right away and inform them of the vibration and bring a copy of this Torque News report. also report your vibration problem to Honda Corporate office so that they can enter your complaint along with the hundreds received on this issue. Since you leased it, ask if you can return it and lease something else. I still get a slight vibration in the steering wheel at speeds 70-75. Seems like my Honda dealer is ignoring me when I mention it, which is typical of a dealership after they sell you a new car It's adios and don't bother me with your problems. Onto the next sucker. I should have bought a Toyota like I was planning to.

I have a Honda CR-V 2015 and it has been in the Honda Service Center 4 times for vibration issues. I picked it up yesterday and the service manager said they could not "Duplicate the Vibration Condition" while in drive mode at a stop. I have no problem feeling the vibration in my drivers seat, pass seat, gear shift or steering wheel. They seem to correct the vibration between 40 - 50 mph and around 60 - 70 mph, but I felt it vibrate again last weekend? This is totally unacceptable to pay $ 30,000. for a car that vibrates.

I agree, not acceptable. Call corporate Honda and inform them of the vibration problem so that they are aware of the hundreds of complaints regarding their product. Hopefully, Honda will come to their senses and establish a recall. Also, ask to speak to the service manager of your vibration problem. I did that and 1/2 of my vibration issue was repaired. Go on facebook and type, 2015 Honda CRV vibration and you will see many comments on this problem. show them to the service manager.

Just bought a 2010 Honda crv and it has that driving on cobblestones or shudder at low engine rpms so we took it in for service and all they did was change the oil in engine ( due for service) and replaced some oil in transmission rather than a complete transmission oil flush and then charged me 160 bucks........the car after we got it from dealer is still the same, shudders at low rpms…my wife and I are passed at this. Last Honda for us period…

2016 HONDA CRV EXL Started rattling at 4000 km now at 5000 it is unbearable it sounds like an old truck this only started happening after oil change and rotation of tires. It shakes so bad when idling or at traffic stops my hands hurt after driving. Dealer mechanic claims it is normal this should not be so I will never buy another HONDA and I told my sons never to go near them again. Looking to get rid of this jalopy, horse and buggy would be better.

Parks McCants    October 26, 2016 - 7:54PM

Welcome Barbara. No, it's not normal! Take it to a second Honda certified repair center for a second opinion and subsequent fix. Or -- hold your selling Honda dealership accountable. It should be noted that ALL Honda dealers are independent businesses. Wishing you best of luck and success!

I own a honda 2015 crv. When I complained to the service about the vibration problem they said I need to has a kit installed, which I did. The problem still exists & the service says this is normal & they cannot raise the rpm speed. They are just covering their rear ends because they are a bunch of clowns who don't want to except that they screwed up. Instead they replaced the president and said to it's customers ! Have a nice day!, but buy our new cary need to be sued!

I gave up with Honda after the second Honda dealer told me the same as the first dealer, that the front end vibration was a "normal characteristic" of the 2015 Honda CRV. They fail to man up to their responsibility and accept blame that their engineer's screwed up and there is no fix, yet Honda continued to sell a faulty product to consumers. Their other excuse is "no recall" because it's not a safety issue and arbitration and lemon laws are the consumers options. I finally got tired of their BS and got rid of my 2015 Honda CRV and bought two 2016 Toyotas and will never go back to Honda. I hope the American public is aware of this and boycotts Honda. BTW, my two Toyotas (Avalon and Prius) are running perfectly with no problems. My comments are true and are not an advertisement for Toyota. I had my CRV for 15 months and all Honda did was balance the tires when I complained about the front end vibration....it did not fix the problem.

Just took delivery on a 18 ridgeline and on deceleration with rear window open it sets up harmonic vibrations that creates pressure in your ears and head. Completely unacceptable.

Raymond Max (not verified)    October 9, 2017 - 10:59AM

Seriously, close the rear window, Your cab is air-tight due to double door seals and seamless construction. The same will happen if you drive with a side window down, or partially open at speed.

Bill E. (not verified)    October 12, 2017 - 9:53PM

l got tired of the runaround from Honda and silly excuses about the vibration being a "normal characteristic." Honda must think we are all idiots in believing their dumb ass excuses for poor engineering. I finally got rid of my 2015 Honda CRV and went back to Toyota again which I should have done in the first place. My 2016 Avalon and 2016 Prius are wonderful cars and have not given me any problems since day one. Goodbye Honda. You lost a good customer.
