Apparently, potential Honda Ridgeline owners worry about being teased for not owning a “real” truck.
That’s why one Reddit user expressed hesitation, it seems.

Yes, The Honda Ridgeline Is A Real Truck
Let’s see what this random Redditor asked, and then take a peek at a couple of responses.
“OK, so I've been looking on this board, and I've got a legit but frank question.
My kids have grown, I don't need the three row SUV anymore, but I could use a bed for yard keeping, kayak carrying (easier to access than the top of an SUV), and home improvement projects.
I'm looking at a Ford Ranger mostly, but my hesitancies are 1) dependability (we've driven only Hondas and Toyotas), and 2) AWD vs. part time 4WD. I don't off-road. I just want weather traction and occasional dirt roads. Also - most other modern trucks are sporting turbos.
But given most of my friends with trucks have F150s or Tacomas, how do y'all deal with the ribbing of not having a "proper truck?" ;) One other thing - I find most of the traffic around me is trucks, so getting higher up is preferable to getting lower to the road. Anyone lift their RL?”
This attitude is understandable, given that the Ridgeline is often praised for being car-like in its demeanor and its exterior styling is a little less “truckish” than the competition. Never mind that the truck is pretty capable off-road and has a reasonable towing capacity.

How Others Responded
Of course, other Redditors reminded the potential Ridgeline buyer that one needn’t worry too much about judgement - one should just drive what one wants to and/or the vehicle that best fits one’s needs.
“Who cares? Gonna spend more money on a bigger truck because you're worried about someone criticizing your vehicle choice?” one said.
“Who cares? Gonna spend more money on a bigger truck because you're worried about someone criticizing your vehicle choice?I've heard it from very few acquaintances. The vast majority of the time it's good natured ribbing.
Good natured ribbing goes both ways, and I give as good as I get.
PS: Love my Ridgeline. I've done everything with mine that you mention you want in a truck. If you're looking for used, make sure you get one with the more reliable nine speed transmission (2020+),” another chimed in.
Yet another: “I've driven Tacomas and F150s. My Ridgeline is my favorite vehicle of all time. Buy what you want. The beauty of getting older is not giving a [darn] what other people think. Alternatively - get new friends with Ridgelines.”
Or this one “The moment they see you swing that tailgate out and load stuff into the hidden trunk, they’ll regret their choice of truck.”
Another pointed out that the test-drive will sell the original poster.
“Test drive them.” A reply indicated that a test drive will indeed do the trick.
“Yup, the Ridgeline sells itself well on the test drive, especially coming directly from test driving another truck.”
Finally, we have this reply to the original poster: “I’ve never been ribbed about my ridgeline. I don’t think anyone really cares what I drive. Heck, I barely care what I drive.”
People do, of course, care what their friends, family, and neighbors think about what they drive. And people do judge. There is also a matter of brand perception - think about the historic Ford vs. Chevrolet rivalries.
With all that in mind, the best thing to do is buy for yourself. And if you’re not sure what the best vehicle is for you, test drive, test drive, and test drive some more.
Or, ask current vehicle owners on Reddit. They’ll give you the scoop.
