Reddit Honda Ridgeline owners no longer ask whether 100,000 miles is too much; they're asking whether it's the beginning of the truck's second life.
A Honda Owner Is Giving His 95,000-Mile Civic To His Retiring Parents, And Asking If A 100,000-Mile Ridgeline Is Really Just Getting Started

When your author was young, the 100,000-mile mark on a car seemed mythical. Some cars that reached it were well-maintained, but others were likely worn down and ready for replacement soon. If you reached 100,000 miles on your car, it was time to go shopping for a new one.

But Honda Ridgeline owners seem to be routinely passing 100,000 miles with ease.

Honda Ridgeline Owners Are Wondering Just How Many Miles They Can Rack Up

Reliability has always been a Honda hallmark, and these Reddit users are wondering how many miles their Ridgelines can rack up before they have to head to the junkyard. Modern technology helps, and planned obsolescence seems to be less of a thing, at least from the outside. Modern vehicles just last longer.

It’s not just about someone buying a new Ridgeline and wondering how long their truck will last - it also matters to used-vehicle buyers, especially those looking at a higher-mileage used Honda Ridgeline. Or another used vehicle, for that matter.

Sadly, the original poster on this Reddit thread deleted their post, but the headline says it all, and the responses remain. They’re informative.

Here’s the question asked: “How many miles can I expect to get out of a used 2nd Gen Ridgeline?”

The first answer is quite helpful to anyone shopping used Honda Ridgelines: “If that Ridgeline is in good shape now and you keep up on the maintenance odds are high that it can last a long time. The Ridgeline is often included in lists of 300K mile vehicles. The Honda V-6 is a timing belt engine and many used ones with 100K miles will be due or overdue for the timing belt job (belt, tensioner, water pump). Spark plugs are also due at 100K. Verify and take care of that and do regular fluid services on the transmission and AWD components. 30K interval on the 6-speed, 50K on the 9-speed. Disclaimer, I don't own a Ridgeline but I do have a Pilot which is very similar under the sheet metal.”

Your author once owned a Honda long ago, and the timing-belt and spark-plug service interval of 100,000 miles is in line with what I remember.

Another user has had longevity success with multiple Honda trucks.

“All of the above. I’ve owned 3 Ridgelines and if taken care of properly at 300K it will still drive like new. The key is proper maintenance, so the service records are all important.”

Another Redditor, however, points out that while some Ridgeline owners have kept their trucks rolling, longevity is not guaranteed.

“Like anything high mileage, it can be great or it can be horrible to deal with. You will have to hope they already changed the timing belt, water pump, and have done the valve adjustment as well for any high mileage Ridgeline. Depending on the year, you will also need to look out any history of the diff and transmission being maintained”.

One more contributor to the conversation points out that high-mileage vehicles simply need a little more attention in terms of maintenance and repair. Seems obvious, but always good to be reminded.

“If you don’t take care of it, 150k-200k. if you do take care of it, 300k+. These V6s are very very very durable engines if you change the oil and do the timing belt on time.”

Not only durable, but a V6 that goes back around 30 years.

Take Care Of Your Vehicle And It Will Take Care Of You

It’s obvious, common-sense advice, but it’s true. Take care of your vehicle and it will last a long time. And if you’re buying a high-mileage used vehicle, take care of it, and it will last a long time, especially if the previous owner or owners also kept up with maintenance and repair.

Now, that’s just basic advice - reliability can vary from make to make and model to model, and it’s clear the Honda Ridgeline has a reputation for being reliable, especially when it comes to the V6 engine.

So, should you be looking at a high-mileage used Honda Ridgeline, you should be in good shape.
