Honda acknowledges possible 2015 CR-V engine vibration

Via a video published April,7 American Honda Motor Company addresses reported intermittent engine vibration noted in 2015 CR-V. Timely!

Torque News received a question Tuesday night from a 2015 CR-V owner. Raj's CR-V vibrated in the driver’s seat and steering wheel at low idle. Was this vibration normal?

American Honda Motor Company released a consumer video Tuesday in response to an acknowledged engine or transmission component vibration reported by owners in (some) 2015 CR-V SUVs equipped with CVT transmission.

According to reporting consumers: The vibration can be intermittent, occurring most frequently at idle or below 2200 rpm while driving. Honda assures CR-V owners that there is no danger of component failure at this time, and that the motor company is actively analyzing the cause and effects of the reported vibration and possible component, product upgrade.

Frankly, spending several hours driving the much improved and upgraded 2015 Honda CR-V, was not enough time for Torque News to pick up on any “excessive” vibration generated through the nations # 1 selling SUV. And, if so noted, we would have most likely written this slight annoyance off as a characteristic of the EarthDreams ™ direct injected engine and CVT transmission.

Readers report to Torque News-Honda that the initial vibration may not be noted immediately, and may be intermittent as reported by Honda.

While Torque News did find the high pressure direct injected 1-VTEC 4 cylinder gasoline engine to have a diesel-like idle rattle, we didn’t note any excessive interior vibration in our test vehicle. We’ve been assured by Honda that direct injected engines have their own unique “sound” at idle.

However, American Honda Motors is exploring the cause and effect of the noted vibration, and will keep consumers informed when and if a source of and subsequent fix for the noted annoyance is found.

In the mean time Honda always recommends that if an excessive vibration of any kind is experienced in your car or light truck, a trip to the dealership is recommended as a safeguard against possible product failure. Honda further states that they appreciate owner feedback, and always welcome your comment.

I agree with all of the consumers who own and drive the 2015 cr-v regularly. The cr-v vibrates and it is annoying. Having spent 30,000 dollars on a brand new car that vibrates is super frustrating and the fact that Honda and dealerships are not transparent about the issue and minimize complaints is even more frustrating. I can't afford to take a financial hit and trade it in, but I am no longer a Honda loyalist and can assure you my next car will be anything but a Honda.

I agree with you Emily that not acknowledging the issue is my main concern. I have an '09 CRV-EXL with navi that I love...even that has some vibration on highway at certain speeds, but not as bothersome as what I am hearing here. I don't like that Honda mucky mucks and sales people are minimizing the problem. I always felt Honda had a high level of integrity as opposed to other american car dealers, but now my thoughts on that have changed drastically. Why don't they just come out and admit there's a problem and offer a fix. I have a feeling this will be another GM massive recall 10 yrs down the road, when they knew all along.

I just took my 2015 cr-v back to the Honda shop and they installed some new software. They said it is 70 percent better and I will get about 1 mile per gallon less. How about giving me 30 percent of my money back!! Does anybody know of any lawsuits going on in Wisconsin?

Excuse me Sandra? There is no "side" here. Honda has acknowledged the concern and is addressing it. Rather the companies answer and universally accepted fix is timely, remains to be seen. My opinion of CR-V is based on driving every model year offered since the cars inception. No one including American Honda Motors is dismissing the occurrence of an intermittent vibration. Take care.

I own a 2015 EX. My dealer completely minimized my concern when I called a couple of days after buying it (having noticed the vibration). The service department even refused to see it. I believe they are legally protecting themselves against something they know they can't fix and against something they knew about but did not disclose during the sale. The owner of the dealer even compared my experience to that of a friend who bought an 85000 dollar corvette that had problems. They are totally out of touch with what it means to be a working person who saves for years to buy what they expect to be a reliable car and not a toy for show. They say I am the first person with the "vibration" but refuse to make it right on any level. They trust honda will fix it. My thoughts are if they could fix it, they would have by now.

I have to agree with Emily. I've gone through this site and have viewed various test drives, and virtually all of them read like ad copy, not independent reviews. There's clearly vested interest here, and it is clear in the comments being made by the site operator.

For those like myself that have a 15 CR-V and want to learn more , suggest you view the "vibration at idle" thread on crvownersclub website. That thread is now at 191 pages, and has some very interesting technical info regarding the likely cause, the difficulty Honda is having with the fix, and various dealers' positions and attempts at recourse.

Best of luck to all affected!

I have owned a 2015 CR-V since Dec 2014. The biggest disappointment I have experienced in a car. Most seem to feel the vibration at idle. I feel it there, but it is a minor annoyance. However, mine is very pronounced at speeds above 60 mph. From 70 to eighty it become so bad it makes you slow down. It is a constant annoyance, and to have Honda "acknowledge" it does nothing to make the experience better. When I have passengers in the car it is only a matter of time until they ask "What is wrong with your car?" This is easily felt by others in the car besides the driver. The dealer's Customer Relations Manager has driven my car and agrees there is a problem greater than most, but no fix. He calls me every few weeks to say "no fix yet". I have used the Honda Website to file a complaint and open a case. Same answer there and I was told to "man up" and suck it up. I have not been able to get the dealership to drive the car. They simply say "we know about the problem". I can only say they do not know about MYproblem and how it may be worse than some. I have offered my car to both the local and national group for test driving but they seem uninterested. I really feel Honda is giving me the proverbial finger.
Last Honda ever for me and I will do what I can to make this problem known to others.

Wayne: I bought my 2015 Honda CRV in Sep 2015 and have the same exact problem you have. The service manager got involved after my third visit and did a "force balance" on all four tires/wheels. This fixed the front end vibration about 70% but now the vibration comes and goes at 70 MPH plus. I have 3,300 miles on it and will ask the to check out the vibration on my first oil change soon. Good luck.

We purchased a new 2015 Honda CRV EXL April 25th, 2015. We loved the car and Honda, as this is our 3rd CRV. When we took a short test drive all was good just as expected. When we reached the 600 mile range we felt the vibration while sitting at at stop light and have been feeling it ever since. It is felt in both front and back. Not only is it felt, but I had a glass of water sitting in the console and you could see the water vibrate. At times, the vibration is so pronounced that I feel it inside my body. At this time we had no idea that others were having this same problem. My husband brought it back to the dealership and they confirmed the vibration. My husband was given a copy of a statement from Honda acknowledging the problem, it stated they were looking into it but did not have a fix for it as of yet. This statement was dated April 7, 2015, which is before we purchased the new CRV. Honda was aware of this problem yet continued to sell the cars. I understand some people are not having these problems but after researching, many people are. We spent over $30,000 and am very disappointed with the quality of this car. I was so proud of our new vehicle but am now embarrassed when the vibration is felt and questioned by passengers. I feel I am stuck if Honda doesn't take this seriously because I would have problems re-selling the car to anyone. To me, it is a defect and would never have purchased the CRV if I was aware that this could be an issue.

I went to Honda dealer in Ottawa, Ontario today. I asked him about transmission vibration. His response: no problem, all CRVs manufactured since May and June 2015 are free of vibration.
Is it true ???

I purchased a HONDA CRV TOURING 2 weeks ago (Calgary Alberta) and the annoying vibration when in D and stopped is still there! So the problem hasn't gone away. If you turn on AC at full blast and turn on the head light to keep the RPM higher than engine idle, the vibration goes away. This might explain why some people are experiencing it and some aren't.
Dropped by dealer 2 days after purchased (HONDA WEST) and was told they were aware of the problem and that they don't know if Honda Canada is working to fix it.

Elise Wolf (not verified)    June 24, 2015 - 2:55PM

Parks, Did you all do another test drive as you mentioned in this thread? And is it true that CRVs manufactured after June 2015 do not have the vibration. We are solid Honda owners, our current CRV has 175,000 miles on it and has been issue free....would love a new one though. Hesitant though from the reviews.....

Good day Elise. Yes, I did spend the week behind the wheel of CR-V. However, the vehicle showed 10,000 miles on the odometer. There is a mild intermittent vibration noted at the steering wheel. Note: intermittent. However, I find CR-V to be a wonderful vehicle, and would recommend a test drive to anyone shopping for a well built compact SUV. So, I don't have a specific answer as to vehicles manufactured after June 2015. Thank you for your comment.

Oh my goodness! Tonight I went to see a 2015 CRV EXL model with the added features and am wondering whether to follow-up. Now I have doubts whether to purchase the vehicle. ???

Welcome R. Garcia. The majority of CR-V owners are very satisfied with the vehicle. We are an internationally read automotive publication. Thousand have read this article.. With that said, how many negative comments do you find under this article? Drive one, see if it works for you. Wishing you best of luck and safe driving.

Valery (not verified)    July 1, 2015 - 10:29AM

2015 Honda CR-V SE driven just 150 km and have already started noticing strong vibrations at stops in D mode. They come and go but at pick level even image in the rear mirror becomes blurred.
Working for Aerospace industry for many years makes me wonder why automakers do not want to apply the best quality control practices to their own products. People lives greatly depend on reliability of their vehicles. And since we don't yet drive self-driving cars human factor is a very important parameter in the driving safety. The strong vibrations whether impeding driver's reaction, resulting in driver's distraction or just plainly making driver uncomfortable on the road cannot be beneficial to the overall safety. We are not robots, we do feel and require minimum comfort especially when spend so much time driving!
It is a known fact that companies like automakers spend a lot on quality control/field testing. Trying to save on this and/or neglect problem reports will inevitably damage company's reputation in a long run if not even cost human lives.
Acknowledging problem is one thing, taking an action and fixing the problem is whole different!

RedTaxi (not verified)    July 11, 2015 - 12:43PM

Parks, why would you (regardless of your daughter owning a 2015 CR-V, and your extended test drive of a 2015 CR-V) assume the since Honda North America is sweeping the problem under the rug, that it is in anyway acceptable?

Parks McCants    July 12, 2015 - 1:25AM

In reply to by RedTaxi (not verified)

Simple enough RedTaxi: Honda as acknowledged the multiple consumer complaints and responded with a logic-driven answer. I have no reason to doubt that American Honda Motors will reach a solution for the intermittent vibration reported. In the mean time, 2015 CR-V has sold in record numbers, and remains the #1 selling compact SUV in North America. Nothing has been swept under the rug. Do you own or drive a 2015 Honda HR-V? If so, share your personal experience. Thank you.

I feel like Honda stole my money $32,000 for Touring CRV 2015 purchased 12/22/2014. VIBRATION while idling (free massage chair) and upon acceleration in steering wheel (like holding a vibrator in your hand). After many trips and phone calls, in April they replaced electronic motor mounts, did not fix. was told AGAIN" Honda is aware of vibration, NOT A SAFTEY ISSUE, looking for a fix.7 month later, still no fix. Was told," UNOFFICALLY" by my dealer, "they found fix, now waiting government approval, apparently it is the motor mount, I guess I got the old ones!!!! I thought Honda was a great car to buy, how wrong I was. I believe they knew about the problem since complaints started in Nov.from Canada, but they still continue to sell, and when people started to complain they acted like this was the 1st time they heard of problem. I paid $3,000 more for Touring model. Feel like I've been scammed! My new car sits in my garage and I drive my 10 year old Toyota Highlander ( which thankfully I kept) , because every time I feel the vibration it get me sooooo angry, more peace of mind with my Toyota.

Deborah, I know how you feel. I have been fortunate that I purchased my Honda CRV Touring 2 weeks ago. This is not the new car experience I was hoping for. I don't think I will ever get a Honda. I have also been telling all my co-workers about this annoying engine vibration. I work for a big corporation so hopefully the words spread fast.

E Shepherd (not verified)    July 28, 2015 - 4:55PM

I discovered the vibration day after purchasing. Talked with the salesman, he said they had no fix for it..fine time to tell me day after I paid them..he suckered me into it saying it was the best car on the road, his wife is getting one..etc..Got it in to have checked but same old story ..I am so disappointed. Mine is really bad at times..it varies daily and can't tell why. I drove it on a long trip and my hands and arms were itchy from sitting in stalled traffic in Louisville. I have asked for the manager to call me, also added it to the comments they sent in mail, still no manager call. I wasn't very nice to Gino the sales guy so maybe they have talked and the manager doesn't want to deal with me. I feel like my hands are tied..it's good on gas but has other faults, such as closing the trunk with handle on the inside left but you have to grab the outside to finish pulling it down which has no handle...it has a hole but its painted which after a while is bound to get scrathed up.. The cup holder is straight below the gear shift so watch bumping your coffee cup as you pick it up..the door locks would not work twice to let me out, neither the buttons or the handle..had to use my key to do it..they could not find anything wrong..the head light on right side stopped working on a trip but came back on half way home, no explanaiton there either..
I've had a lot of cars but never anything like this...it's unbelievable that Honda is not getting on this in a much faster way..I always heard great things about them that's why I went from Toyota to Honda, big mistake. I bought a damaged car and they think it's nothing because it doesn't threaten to kill me..If they don't know what is causing it how do they know it won't get much worse..and maybe kill someone..how can it last 5 years shaking like this..A friend of mine I visited said it feels like a freaking jackhammer..
I called the service dept this morning and the guy told me that not many people even notice it..so they have few complaints.
Also, at this dealership, they do not put paper mats in when they work on your car..
I'm pretty sick over the whole thing. I talked to someone on another forum about the CRV and he said he went to test drive one, the vibration wasn't mentioned, he definitely felt it and the saleman acted like he didn't feel it and told the guy it was because he was used to his car he was driving..he said that car is his wife's and he drives a big pickup that rides better..the salesman said he would have service check it out , it just needed some adjustment after being transported..not once did he say there were issues so they are certainly selling the cars and not disclosing the truth..

Mark C (not verified)    August 4, 2015 - 3:02PM

My 2105 CRV EXL has the same vibration issue. I bought my car in July 4th. I would say 3 days later, vibration started. I then went online typed ; 2015 CRV problems then found a lot of complaints. I called and called and bought the car back to the dealers x2. The guy would just tell me the same thing, bla blaaa. He showed me the Honda clip which I already watched a few times in youtube. .sorry, no fix. I spent 30 for a new car just don't want a headache. Nightmare started just 3 days???? Every time I stop in the red light I has to put it to N to stop vibrating. This is not supposed to be. I really feel Honda should not be selling problem cars when they already knew theres problem. I feel like I've been scammed as well. Can this be a lawsuit to Honda? I am very disappointed!

I too have the 2015 CRV vibration. In addition it vibrates at 70 MPH from new. The tires have been balance and rotated. It feels like the new electrical power steering system was not ready to me. August 2015 and after 3 visits to the dealer AFTER calling American Honda, they finally admitted they knew of the unresolved issue. I guess waisting my time was not an issue: I have purchased NEW: 1982 Accord, 2006 CRV, 2012 CRV, 2012 Accord, 2015 CRV….I will never buy another Honda as a direct result of my American Honda case manager, really waisted my time.

I have been a long time buyer of Honda Civics, and have been happy with all of them. Recently I decided to move up to a CR-V. Had done my research and knew all about the vibration. My salesman assured me that it had been fixed, and the problem was only relevant to the early 2015 models. LIAR, LIAR, LIAR. My test vehicle was built in 07/15 and the vibration at idle was bad. This has really soured my relationship with the dealer. The salesman accused me of looking for a problem. In my household $38,000 after tax is one hell of a lot of money. I am looking at a 2016 Hyundai Tucson now. Better warranty, better interest rate, more features for the money.
