Tesla FSD - No Longer Beta

Tesla's FSD is no longer in eta mode as evidence from the one-month free trial emails shows Tesla calling it something else: Tesla Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and says that under your supervision, your Tesla vehicle will drive you just about anywhere. Here are the exact words Tesla used in the email:

Your Full Self-Driving (Supervised) Trial Starts Now!

You've been granted a 30-day complimentary trial of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) for your Model Y ending in ...

Under your supervision, Full Self-Driving (Supervised) can drive your Tesla almost anywhere. It will make lane changes, select forks to follow your navigation route, navigate around other vehicles and objects, and make left and right turns. You and anyone you authorize must use additional caution and remain attentive. It does not make your vehicle autonomous. Do not become complacent.

This is a big deal. It's the next big step in Tesla's FSD software and a big step forward in autonomous transport. However, the car is not yet autonomous, therefore, active supervision and being ready for intervention must be 100% the responsibility of the driver.

Does Tesla's FSD Require Active Supervision?

It absolutely does as of March 30, 2024. The car is not yet autonomous. However, if you watch many of the videos being taken of Tesla FSD, you'll realize very quickly that most of the time it does the right thing and you don't have to intervene very often.

The car is not yet autonomous, however, I do see a time when Tesla will release the following

Tesla Full Self-Driving (Unsupervised) - and this will say that you don't need to pay attention or intervene any longer. You need only input destinations for the car to go to or places to park. Minimal input will be needed at all. I expect this to release in 2026.

How Well Will Tesla's FSD Software Drive?

Tesla's FSD software will drive very well right now. From version 11 to 12 to now, 12.3 and the subsequent minor versions after that, the car drives very often without needing any intervention or correction.

This is a huge step-up and the reason is that the software uses neural nets and machine learning instead of hard coded human code. The car is learning, just like a human is now.

Is Tesla Responsible For a Crash While Using Supervised Full Self-Driving?

Tesla is not responsible for crashes that happen with FSD supervised at the moment. Because the driver is supervising the driving, this is still driver assist software and requires active monitoring.

If a crash happens, it's because the driver did not intervene to correct a mistake.

However, this will change in the future and by 2026, I see Tesla taking all responsibility for any kind of crash or damage that happens as a result of FSD running.

Is Tesla FSD Out Of Beta?

Tesla FSD is indeed out of Beta mode. There is no reason to call it FSD Beta anymore, and it is getting ready for a wide release to all Tesla vehicles with one-month free trials and new deliveries being required by the service center employee to do an FSD test drive.
