Tesla Cybertruck "Giga Wiper" Is An Engineering Marvel In And Of Itself

The Tesla Cybertruck has a giant single blade windshield wiper. It covers most of the windshield and is a unique marvel of engineering.

The Cybertruck Giga Wiper

The Tesla Cybertruck, which was recently seen doing some off-roading in Arizona, is an engineering marvel. And, there's one thing about it that doesn't get enough attention, that is also an engineering marvel.

This is the "giga wiper" or the single windshield wiper that covers about 80% of the windshield of the Cybertruck when being used. We have a video of the giga wiper in action during a rainy drive in the Cybertruck, and it does a great job.

The giga wiper review is pretty good, according to Ben on X. He had this to say about the giga wiper:

It's actually doing a pretty good job. Visibility is good. Don't feel like it's too slow. It actually looks like it's going to snap somebody's neck off, but it works pretty good.

I've watched the video a few times and the wiper is working pretty good, keeping the windshield clear during heavy rain.

The Cybertruck is a 48-volt architecture EV truck with an armored stainless steel exoskeleton. The giga wiper is yet another unique thing about the Cybertruck.

An Engineering Marvel

What is funny about the giga wiper is that Elon Musk did not want it to be the final wiper in the customer release of the Cybertruck. He was hoping for something else.

I think what happened is that the giga wiper - a single wiper blade, was what was the best solution over time and no other solution was able to come forward and do better than it.

Thus, the prototype wiper blade has become the final design and it's doing great!

The cost to replace the giga wiper is $165, according to a leaked price catalog that has since had the prices redacted. If this cost holds up, that isn't too bad to replace this giant behemoth of a wiper blade.

One thing I am curious is how much power does each swipe of the giga wiper consume? It can't be a simple and small control doing that much swiping on the windshield - it looks like it's doing a lot of work.

Even so, I think this is a unique marvel of engineering, and it will be interesting to see if anyone has any issues with the giga wiper. Hopefully Tesla tested it thoroughly, and I have no doubt that they did.

The Cybertruck giga wiper is a giant marvel of engineering and seems to work even in heavy rain. Did Tesla do the right thing making a single giant bladed wiper for the windshield, or should Tesla have made two wipers?
