A Tesla Fan Says He’s Looking to Upgrade His Model Y but is Torn Between a Cybertruck and a Tesla Model X – Adds, “The Cybertruck is Super Cool, but I Live in Michigan & It Doesn’t Fit in Our Garage”

A Tesla Model Y owner says he’s in a dilemma trying to choose which vehicle to upgrade to—a Cybertruck or a Tesla Model X. However, despite their similar price tags, fellow Tesla fans unanimously crown the Cybertruck as the better vehicle.

Navin Raj, a dedicated Tesla enthusiast from Michigan, is considering upgrading his Tesla Model Y but is torn between the Tesla Model X and the Cybertruck.

Navin says his heart is with the Cybertruck, and he thinks the truck is ‘super cool’; however, he mentions some practical issues that are pushing him toward the Tesla Model X.

The main issue is that even though Navin likes the Cybertruck’s bigger size and higher ride, he says the all-electric truck won’t fit in his garage.

As a Michigan resident, Navin is worried about how four months of snow and ice will affect his Cybertruck if he parks it outside.

In addition, Navin says he also has to convince his wife that they won't face negativity in their community for driving a Cybertruck.

The conflicted Cybertruck enthusiast shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.

He writes…

“I’m thinking of upgrading my Tesla Model Y and torn between two very different vehicles: the Model X vs. the Cybertruck.

Pros and cons are swirling in my head:

 • I love the self-presenting and Falcon wing doors on the Model X, but the recent refresh was pretty underwhelming — it still looks nearly identical to the older models.

 • The Cybertruck? Super cool — I love the ride height and overall boldness… but it doesn’t fit in our garage. And I live in Michigan, where four months of snow and ice could mean a very frosty truck if it’s parked outside.

 • Also, I need to convince my wife that we won’t be hated for driving around a Cybertruck.

I'm just sharing my thought process and curious to hear what others think. Is anyone parking their Cybertruck outside? How’s it holding up in the sun and snow?”

Having $100,000 to spend on a vehicle and trying to decide which one to get is a good problem to have.

However, looking at the comments, Tesla fans did not see Navin's decision as a dilemma. Nearly all of them crowned the Cybertruck as a superior all-around vehicle and an obvious choice compared to the Tesla Model X.

A fellow Cybertruck owner, Bailey, says he owns a Tesla Model X and a Cybertruck, and not only is the Cybertruck a better vehicle, but he has stopped driving his Model X altogether.

Bailey writes…

“I got both a Tesla Model X and a Cybertruck in my driveway and parked outside, no issues with that. I rarely drive my Model X anymore, but it’s an old tech 2017. The utility and steering of the Cybertruck won the competition for me.”

A second Cybertruck owner, Inci Willard, says he also owns a Model X and a Cybertruck, both 2024 models, and he has stopped driving his Model X because of his Cybertruck.

Inci writes…

“I got both! The Tesla Model X arrived in January 2024, and the Cybertruck came in June 2024.

The Cybertruck has more mileage than the Model X, which is rarely used and sits in the garage. Go for the Cybertruck!”

A third Cybertruck owner, John Lewis, writes…

“The Cybertruck is far superior in both technology and handling. The steer-by-wire and rear-wheel steering are real game changers.

It offers a smooth and quiet ride, but its capabilities for hauling or towing are comparable to those of any other truck.”

A fourth Cybertruck owner, Kristina Cappelletti, says she switched from the Tesla Model X to the Cybertruck and hasn’t looked back.

Kristina writes…

“I just switched from the Model X Plaid to the Cybertruck. The utility of having the truck is much better; there are certain things I miss about the X. But the steer-by-wire system is game-changing.

When I get into our Tesla Model 3 now, the steering feels sluggish.”

Overall, although the Model X and Cybertruck are similarly priced, Tesla fans generally agree that the Cybertruck is a significantly better vehicle than the Model X.
