Collin Bercier, a Cybertruck owner from Louisiana, shares that a group of kids crashed a go-kart directly into the Cybertruck’s stainless steel exterior.
Collin mentions that the vehicle wasn’t severely damaged, but there is now a visible scratch on the Cybertruck door.
The damage is on the lower part of the Cybertruck; however, considering how high off the ground the Cybertruck sits and how low to the ground go-karts are, the incident is concerning.
From just looking at the damage, it seems that a kid hit the sharp edge of the Cybertruck door with their head.
Regrettably, Collin didn’t specify the extent of the child’s injuries; however, from his tone, it seems the child is okay.
Regarding the damage to the Cybertruck, Collin seems a bit frustrated by the scratch.
He mentioned that he took his Cybertruck to a nearby Tesla-certified body shop, and the mechanic there suggested that the damage might be easily repaired through polishing or sanding.
This is good news for Collin; however, the concern is that if the mechanic only polishes a small section of the truck where the scratches are, that area might look different from the rest of the body.
To prevent that, the mechanic recommended sanding down the entire truck, but Collin is unsure if he wants to proceed with this option.
The conflicted Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
He writes…
“Damn kids! Ran the go-kart into my truck. I took it to the local Tesla-certified shop, and he said he might be able to just sand and polish out the lower half, or he might have to do the whole side of my truck, because that one spot could end up looking much different from the rest of the truck.
Any suggestions?"
Below his post, Collin shared a picture of his Cybertruck showing where the damage occurred.
As you can see, the scratch is on the angled protruding part of the Cybertruck door at the lower section.
If a child hits their head on the Cybertruck's stainless steel in this area, it will definitely be concerning. Hope he/she was wearing a helmet.
And looking at the comment, most Cybertruck owners focused on the damage to the vehicle rather than on the kids’ situation.
Only one Cybertruck owner, Josh Roudabush, asked…
“Are the kids OK?”
Most Cybertruck owners, perhaps because of Collin’s question about the scratches, seemed more focused on the damage to the all-electric truck.
However, most Cybertruck owners noted that having a scratch on a Cybertruck isn't a big deal, and Collin should leave the scratch alone.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Tim Talbott, writes…
“Since you asked — I’d leave the scratch as is. It’s a truck. Mine has dings and scratches, and to me, that gives it character. Best wishes, whichever way you decide to go.”
Another Cybertruck owner, James Hubbard, writes…
“It's a truck. It has a mark. Welcome to the world of truck ownership! It isn't a Ferrari, even though it can launch faster than one.”
A third Cybertruck owner, James Rudy Guenther, writes…
“Let it go until there's more to handle. Plus, it's scratched. Now you don't have to worry about it!”
A fourth Cybertruck owner, Keith Hanson, writes…
“Realistically, dents and scuffs are going to happen; in this case, you know who caused them, but others might happen without a clear camera shot.
It's a truck—unless it's a show vehicle—blend it in a little and deal with it.
Wraps are expensive; a well-placed decal to cover the damage, after lightly sanding the peaks, is a possible solution.
Rocks on the freeway will happen; are you going to take it in for that, too? Sorry this happened to you. Be glad there were no injuries to the kid.”
Most Cybertruck owners seem to believe a small scratch from a go-kart isn't a big deal. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
