A Tesla Cybertruck Owner Says His Glass Roof Started to Spontaneously Crack Due to the Heat – Adds, “The Cracks Spiraled Like a Tornado or a Spider Web”

A Cybertruck owner reports that he left his truck outside during intense heat, and the Cybertruck’s glass roof suddenly began cracking due to thermal stress. He adds that the cracks formed a spiral similar to that of a tornado or a spider's web.

Macon Hill, a Cybertruck owner from Georgia, says his truck’s glass roof suddenly started to develop stress fractures while it was parked in the sun.

Macon adds that there was no external impact that caused the glass to break, and the damage followed the intense summer heat.

Macon describes the fracture as having a unique spiral shape similar to a tornado or a spider web.

After noticing the damage, Macon took his truck to a Tesla service center, where Tesla technicians confirmed that the damage was not caused by an impact but occurred spontaneously.

Macon says replacing a Cybertruck roof costs $2,200, but Tesla replaced his free of charge under warranty.

This was positive; however, before he could collect his Cybertruck, Tesla notified him that scratches had emerged during the replacement glass installation. As a result, Macon now requires a second glass roof replacement within a week.

This is definitely not ideal, and the frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.

He writes…

⚠️ Cybertruck Roof Glass Stress Fracture Report – My Experience

Wanted to share a heads-up with fellow Cybertruck owners:

Last week, I noticed a spiral-shaped stress fracture forming in the top panoramic glass panel of my Cybertruck. No impact, no debris—just intense heat followed by the crack appearing on its own. It seemed to originate from thermal stress rather than any physical damage.

I reported it to Tesla, dropped the truck off last Friday, and after their investigation, they confirmed it was a stress fracture, not caused by impact.

🧾 The repair was $2,200.

Tesla replaced the glass under warranty (or at least accepted fault), and I’m scheduled to pick it up tomorrow… BUT — I just learned that the replacement glass already has a scratch from the installation process.

So… I’ll be dropping the truck back off again for yet another glass swap.

Just sharing in case anyone else notices something similar with their glass—especially during summer heat. Check for microcracks or spiral lines radiating outward.

Anyone else experienced this issue?”

Below his post, Macon attached a screenshot from his Tesla app that displays the service summary for the glass roof replacement.

The Tesla technician, describing the work, writes.

“Your vehicle is ready for pick-up. Message service if you have questions or concerns.

Glass & Windows - Resolved

Technician Notes:

The technician inspected the vehicle and verified that the top glass had shattered without any impact marks, as reported by the customer. The technician replaced and fixed the glass roof assembly and cleaned up the broken glass.

Total (Paid) $0.00”

A Tesla Cybertruck Owner Says His Glass Roof Started to Spontaneously Crack Due to the Heat – Adds, “The Cracks Spiraled Like a Tornado or a Spider Web”

A glass roof shattering due to “thermal stress” is already concerning; however, in Macon’s case, his new glass roof is already scratched up, and he needs to be replaced.

This is definitely not ideal; however, looking at the comments, other Tesla owners also shared that they had experienced similar issues with Tesla glass.

A fellow Tesla Model 3 owner, Stefan De La Rosa, sarcastically says that after his glass roof was replaced, he was treated to a waterfall flowing inside his car due to the leaky new roof.

Stefan writes…

“The best thing that happened to my Tesla Model 3 was after they replaced the top glass (4 days later); I washed my car, and I was able to see the most beautiful waterfall inside.

They didn’t seal it properly. They also messed up the back glass when they installed the top glass, so they had to replace that as well.

The next rain, I had a waterfall from the windshield down to the glovebox. They replaced the windshield, too.”

Another thing fellow Cybertruck owners wanted to know is a description of what the damage to the glass roof looks like.

A fellow Cybertruck owner, Alexander Arrieta, concerned about how his own Cybertruck is faring in the heat, writes…

“Thanks for the info, I will check for any type of cracks on my Cybertruck. How long was yours?”

In response, Macon says the fracture in his Cybertruck's glass roof wasn’t straight, but it was spiral-shaped like a spider web or a tornado.

Macon writes…

“It looks like a 🌀 spiral. 🕸️ spider web. The entire thing was spiraling.”

A glass roof that is fractured like a spider web is definitely not ideal; however, please let me know what you think in the comments. Share your ideas by clicking the red “Add new comment” button below. Also, be sure to visit our site, torquenews.com/Tesla, regularly for the latest updates.
