Antonio Palermo, a Cybertruck owner from Illinois, reports that his new truck had issues and needed to be returned to Tesla Service after only driving 4 miles from the delivery center.

Antonio had just taken delivery of the Cybertruck and was driving it home for the first time; however, four miles from the dealership, he noticed the truck making loud noises, and the steering wheel started to vibrate at around 60 miles per hour.

What’s interesting here is that the Cybertruck has a steer-by-wire steering system, which means there is no physical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels.

However, Antonio notes he was surprised to feel the steering yoke vibrate despite the steer-by-wire connection.

This is definitely not ideal; however, making matters worse, Antonio says he returned his Cybertruck to Tesla, and the issue appears to be linked to the front motor.

According to Antonio, initially, the Tesla service technicians believed the vibration problem was related to the tires or wheel bearings.

However, Antonio told them that besides the vibration, his tri-motor Cybertruck also lacked power.

The Tesla technician took his complaint, and after diagnostics, they discovered that Antonio’s brand-new Cybertruck needs a motor replacement.

This is definitely not ideal, and Antonio is now looking into ways to return his Cbertruck.

The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.

He writes…

“Do I hold the record for the shortest time before the Cybertruck failed?

I'm completely disgusted right now after testing a Cybertruck and then the Cyberbeast. I figured screw it and bought a brand new one, $10,000 off since it's last year's model, the 2024, with 12 miles.

I had it shipped to Naperville, Illinois. Went to see it a couple of days ago; it was filthy, with the bed stained from being left open for months. When I went to take delivery, the front mud flap was missing, and the other was rigged on.

I told them I didn’t want to wait; if they had new mud flaps, I’d install them myself. I just wanted to get out of there.

I went 4 miles to the highway, and when I exceeded 60 mph, the front motor started making a crazy whine and a tiny vibration in the wheel, which is surprising since it’s steer-by-wire.

I drove it back to Tesla, and now I’m waiting until tomorrow so the service team can look at it. I told them I don’t want it if it can’t be fixed by tomorrow, so that they will reverse the delivery.

I suppose this is what you get when you get a $ 10,000 discount. Seriously, I’m just disgusted right now—completely different experience from getting my Tesla Model 3.

The highway video is hard to tell, but you can hear the whining, and neither of the demo Cybertrucks I took home did that.

First off, I’ll say that at least Dominic, the service manager, is really helpful. He immediately identified the problem and thought it might be a tire or wheel bearing. I still said it felt like the motor because it didn’t have sufficient power.

Well, he just called back and said that it needs a new front motor, and he could have it fixed by Tuesday or Wednesday.

I told him that if he can put me in a loaner Plaid so I at least have some entertainment, I’ll stick with the deal. So I’m waiting for his callback.”

Below his post, Antonio shared several pictures and videos showing his Cybertruck.

The first picture shows his truck before he took delivery, with a card on the dashboard that reads “Congratulations, Antonio.”

Antonio also shares several pictures of the stained truck bed on his brand-new vehicle.

A few minutes after these photos were taken, Antonio records a video driving on the highway, showing the noise and vibration coming from his Cybertruck.

Antonio also shares a second video of himself at the Tesla delivery center, dropping off his Cybertruck for service less than an hour after purchasing it.

This is definitely frustrating; however, looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners said it’s Antonio’s fault for accepting delivery of a vehicle with so many defects.

A fellow Cybertruck owner, Jeremy Lvancevic, writes…

“lol ‘disgusted’. So you picked up the truck, saw all the issues, and accepted it anyway?”

A second Cybertruck owner, Geebao Du, says no wonder Antonio’s Cybertruck has issues; it’s a 2024 truck being sold in the middle of 2025.

Geebao writes…

“Yeah, 2024 Cybertruck… in mid-2025. Probably been rejected a dozen times.”

Overall, looking at the comments, Cybertruck owners appear to blame Antonio for the problems he's experiencing with his Cybertruck.
