The Cybertruck's excessive wind noise issue is frustrating many owners.
Like many other Tesla Cybertruck owners, Shannon Feick and her husband are dissatisfied with the excessive wind noise inside their truck. Their frustration is evident in Shannon's story.
Imagine the disappointment of being one of the first to own a Cybertruck, investing nearly $80,000 in Tesla's electric truck, only to find significant wind noise inside the cabin. It's a letdown.
Shannon, on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners Facebook post, says,
"My Tesla Service Center refuses to address the insane wind noise in my Cybertruck. No matter what I ask for, even paying out of my pocket, I get denied."
Imagine the frustration of repeatedly calling the Tesla Service Center, only to be told to bring your Cybertruck in for a tech to look at it. However, Shannon is persistent.
You make an appointment to bring the truck to the SC for a test drive, and the tech tells you they can hear the noise, and it shouldn't be there. He tells you Tesla is aware of the problem and is working on a solution.
However, they aren't able to fix it.
Now, picture taking your Cybertruck in for the second time, hoping for a different outcome. The technician acknowledged the problem, but they could not seem to fix it. The frustration of repeated unsuccessful attempts is palpable.
Here is Shannon's unfortunate story
She says, "The first tech said it was an issue during the test drive. He also stated that Tesla was aware of the problem and is working on a solution. The second tech also acknowledged the wind noise, yet both visits resulted in no change or fix for the problem."
Here is the email exchange between Shannon and Angela with Tesla's customer service.
Shannon: "Cybertruck owners have reported significant wind noise, with some even suggesting the issue is normal and that the best solution is to use tape to seal gaps. Others have found that recalibrating windows, updating software, or using weather stripping can help reduce the noise."
Angela at the Tesla Service Center says, "We do not go on what other Cybertruck owners say on the internet. We will need to see what needs to be replaced on the drive and when you are here for an inspection."
This lack of understanding and empathy from Tesla's customer service frustrates many Cybertruck owners.
Now, she needs to take the Cybertruck in again.
"Why do I need to return for a third test drive with another tech? I am proposing to pay for new door seals myself, given the feedback from 1000 other CT owners. Please provide a quote."
Shannon is still waiting to get some help from the Service Center.
"Unfortunately, they are still learning about some of the issues as they come up," she says. "The last tech told me, 'We are still learning about these trucks with you.'" This ongoing struggle is something many Cybertruck owners can relate to.
Another Cybertruck Owner Has the Same Issue
On the service receipt from another Cybertruck owner, Nicole Masiulis, she says, "Here's the service receipt and what they did on our CT."
Concern: Customer states wind noise is coming from the front passenger window. It happens at 65 mph on the highway.
Repair Notes:
Road test:
- I possibly heard wind noise on the front passenger window near the A-pillar.
- I adjusted the window inward and road-tested to verify the noise was no longer present.
- I adjusted the window and waxed the seal because the windows were tinted, and it was not sealing as it did on the plain glass.
There is a second issue addressed
Concern: Windows are streaking near the front of both front windows.
Repair Notes:
- Cleaned front windows with bead maker inside and outside.
- Windows have a tint and are rubbing on the dew seal. I cleaned the seal area and verified that streaking was no longer present.
Here's a more detailed look at the Tesla Cybertruck's wind noise issue:
1. Reported Issues:
- Wind noise, particularly around the windows and door seals, has been a common complaint among Cybertruck owners.
- Some owners have described the noise as loud and disruptive.
- The Cybertruck's design, with its flat panels and minimal gaps, exacerbates wind noise issues.
2. Tesla's Response and "Tape" Solution:
- Some owners have reported that Tesla service centers have recommended using tape to seal panel gaps to fix the wind noise.
- Tesla has acknowledged that the noise can be caused by air turbulence at higher speeds and that the vehicle's body fitment may not allow for panel adjustments.
A report from Mashable says,
"A screenshot of the service report reveals the technician's response: "The noise heard is normal air turbulence expected at higher speeds." The report also noted that while applying tape helped reduce the sound, further panel adjustments weren't possible due to the vehicle's body fitment specifications."
3. Alternative Solutions:
- Software Updates: Some owners reported that a software update helped resolve their wind noise issues.
- Window Recalibration: Calibrating the windows may help seal them properly against the glass.
- Weather Stripping: Adding additional weather stripping behind the Cybertruck's existing weather stripping can help improve the seal and reduce wind noise, according to one Cybertruck Owners Club forum thread.
- Closing Air Ducts: Some owners have found that closing the air ducts leading from the grill to the front tires can reduce wind buffeting noise.
- Tailgate and Tunnel Cover: During wind tunnel testing, it was found that driving with the tailgate down and the tunnel cover open can improve efficiency on the highway.
4. Possible Causes:
- Panel Gaps: The Cybertruck's design and the fitment of the panels can create gaps that allow wind to enter the cabin.
- Seals and Weatherstripping: The seals around the windows and doors may not properly seal, allowing wind noise to enter.
- Temperature Changes: Cold temperatures can cause seals and panels to expand and contract, potentially leading to increased wind noise.
- Aerodynamics: The Cybertruck's unique shape and flat surfaces can create air turbulence, contributing to wind noise.
Conclusion:
If you are experiencing wind noise in your Cybertruck, you can try the abovementioned solutions, such as software updates, window recalibration, or weather stripping.
If the problem persists, consider contacting Tesla's customer service or scheduling a service appointment.

The wind noise was along for the test drive. Why didn't these folks bring it up then? Caveat emptor applies here. They bought the problems, so now they own them. What can ya do, right?
