Subaru Models With The Most And Least Recall Issues - The Best Will Shock You

Which Subaru models have the most and the least amount of recalls? The Subaru model with the least recalls is not what you would expect. Check out the list here.

How do Subaru's all-wheel-drive models rank for recall issues? iSeeCars analyzed over 4 million National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) records to calculate a Recall Rating for each Subaru model. Here is the ranking of Subaru's lineup's best and worst models. The top-ranked model will shock you.

The recent report reveals that the best Subaru vehicle for avoiding recalls is the Subaru STI, with an iSeeCars recall rating of 9.2/10. This is a surprise since the STI is a high-performance car with a turbocharged engine. Previous WRX STI models have had issues with the EJ25 2.5-liter turbocharged Boxer engine. Subaru settled a lawsuit over defective engines. However, no engine recall was ever issued for the sports car.

2023 Subaru WRX

The Subaru BRZ sports coupe is the second-best Subaru model for the least amount of recalls, with an iSeeCars recall rating of 8.9/10. In addition, we have documented the BRZ's high-reliability ratings.

The most reliable used sports cars for under $25,000 now include the Subaru BRZ. A recent ranking from Consumer Reports (by subscription) says the 2013 Subaru BRZ is a good pick for buyers looking for an affordable sports car under $15,000.

2023 Subaru Forester

Subaru Forester is also highly rated for avoiding Subaru recalls. The Forester compact SUV is the third-best model, with an iSeeCars recall rating of 8.5/10.

According to a recently-updated ranking from Consumer Reports, the Subaru Forester compact SUV is named a top ten pick of 2023. And it's called the best in its class.

iSeeCars has recall information from the NHTSA on eleven Subaru models listed below. Here are the rankings from best to worst.

Subaru STI - 9.2
Subaru BRZ - 8.9
Subaru Forester - 8.5
Subaru Impreza sedan - 8.4
Subaru Impreza wagon - 8.4
Subaru WRX - 8.3
Subaru Crosstrek - 8.3
Subaru Crosstrek (Plug-in Hybrid) - 8.3
Subaru Outback - 8.2
Subaru Legacy - 8.2

The all-new 2023 Subaru Solterra EV has yet to be rated. However, the all-electric Subaru Solterra already has one recall for a potential wheel problem. Subaru Corporation recalled the Solterra manufactured in Japan by Toyota Motor, and 2,600 EVs were affected. You can read the report here.

How many recalls does Subaru have in 2023?

Subaru has had zero recalls so far in 2023. However, in 2022, Subaru of America had seven recalls affecting 520,280 vehicles. In a recent Consumer Reports reliability study of who makes the most reliable new cars, Subaru scores seven out of twenty-four car brands in the U.S. market.

The updated Consumer Reports study says the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV scores highest with a score of 80 and has "above-average" reliability. The 2023 Forester compact SUV is next, scoring 75 points. The Impreza (56), Outback (51), and Legacy (50) also have above-average reliability. The Ascent (44) scores lowest but is up considerably from last year's score of 18 points. CR did not have scores for the 2023 WRX and 2023 BRZ sports cars.

First, the car is old so much technology has changed in the 16 years. I had a 2011 and never once caused any problems. I went and purchased an new outback. This as well as the last outback was and is amazing. That being said, First question? How many miles and how many owners? What does the car fax say. My thought
If it has multiple owners and possibility of being sold at auction several times possible, could indicate a lemon. These cars are simple to work on and to fix. My suggestion doll it up and sell on autotrader. And don't talk about any negatives.
Or trade in people love these and selling for top dollar, if overall a good car. Look for a newer car.
Hope this helps.
