Refreshed Subaru Forester, New Outback Just Scored Car Of The Year Awards

The 2022 Subaru Forester and Outback just scored more global awards. See where they get Car of the Year awards.

The refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester and new 2022 Outback are two of Subaru's most in-demand all-wheel-drive vehicles around the globe. With the recent car shortage, Subaru of America retailers can't get enough for customers.

The Subaru Forester and Outback are double winners in this year's OzRoamer Car of the Year awards in Australia, with both vehicles taking top honors in their respective categories.

The Subaru Forester compact SUV has been crowned OzRoamer's 2022 all-wheel-drive SUV under $45,000 (Australian), and the Subaru Outback has been named OzRoamer's 2022 all-wheel-drive SUV in the $45,000 - $60,000 price range.

Forester and Outback are recognized for their all-wheel-drive capability, improved ride quality, driving dynamics, and their utility as urban commuters.

Subaru vehicles are no strangers to the OzRoamer Car of the Year awards. Previously, Subaru Outback 2.0D Premium was named the best all-wheel-drive SUV for $45,000 - $60,000 in OzRoamer's 2016 COTY awards, and in 2019, the Forester 2.5i-S won the award for the best all-wheel-drive SUV $40,000 - $50,000.

What sets the Forester apart?

OzRoamer Editor, Rob Fraser, said, "In a world of midsize all-wheel-drive SUVs, the Subaru Forester stands alone with its Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system and Boxer engine. The level of responsiveness while providing a smooth and quiet ride is class-leading. Forester is the best all-wheel-drive SUV in its segment and offers buyers a true adventure ability and excellent ride handling, and a premium interior."

What sets the Outback apart?

Fraser said," In a crowded segment, the Outback stands apart. Driver ergonomics are excellent, and it has best in class all-wheel-drive capability, towing capacity, comfort, and safety, all for an attractive price. Smooth and quiet on the road, turn off the main avenues to explore, and the Outback is ready for whatever adventures you want."

Our take

The Forester has a higher ground clearance (8.7-inches) than all other compact SUVs, comes standard with Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system for all-weather performance, and offers X-Mode for additional off-pavement performance.

The Outback appeals to a broader audience because it's bigger than a traditional wagon, features more cargo capacity, has a higher ground clearance (8.7-inches), and comes standard with Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system for all-weather performance. Outback also offers X-Mode for additional off-pavement performance.

In addition, Subaru of America now offers the more rugged Outback and Forester Wilderness trim levels for outdoor enthusiasts. Check out the new Wilderness report below.

The refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester compact SUV and new 2022 Outback midsize SUV are popular all-wheel-drive, off-pavement vehicles with the global community. Subaru hit a home run with the two SUVs.

Shame they don't have the parts to build more than two of them. I've been shopping for a new car since January with multiple dealerships and the best date I've been given is May.
