I Just Bought a 2025 Ford F-250, I Waited For the Less Expensive Tesla Cybertruck, and When It Came Out, I Still Couldn’t Afford It

Would you buy the Tesla Cybertruck if it were less expensive?

In response to a post on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners Facebook page from Merrit Marko about whether he should buy a Cybertruck now or wait for prices to fall, it sparked a lively debate. We want to hear your thoughts. Which side are you on?

Merrit says, "I have a 2025 Cybertruck pricing question. I haven't quite pulled the trigger. I did at the end of 2024. Tesla gave my reservation away. It pissed me off and I walked away. Nonetheless, I still want one. However, an AWD is still $83k with Cyber Wheels. I know we will never know when price cuts are coming." 

"If they offer free supercharging, I'm in." 

How many truck buyers would purchase a 2025 Tesla Cybertruck if it were less expensive? 

Image wanting a new Cybertruck, waiting for the less expensive model and it never materialized. Now you wait for prices to fall, which haven't decreased much. So you pull the trigger on a new Ford F-250 pickup instead. That's what Robby Stroud did. 

Robby purchased a 2025 Ford F-250 because the Tesla Cybertruck is too expensive. He waited for prices to drop, and even with incentives, he still can't afford a new CT. 

Robby says, "I just bought a 2025 Ford F250. I waited for the less expensive Cybertruck, but I still couldn't afford one when it came out. It broke my heart because I wanted the CT. Tesla must find a way to decrease the price if they want mass market adoption."

What is the price of a 2025 Ford F-250?

The starting MSRP for the 2025 F-250 Super Duty truck is $45,300 for the XL trim level.

What is the price of a 2025 Tesla Cybertruck?

The cheapest Tesla Cybertruck is the Long Range RWD model, which starts at $69,990 before any federal tax credits or incentives. With the $7,500 federal tax credit, the price could be $62,490 before options. 

The Long Range RWD model also offers a more extended range (350 miles) than the dual-motor AWD and tri-motor Cyberbeast models. 

When can we expect the Tesla Cybertruck prices to fall? 

A report from Forbes says Tesla's Cybertruck price may be falling sooner than expected due to inventory issues and a shift in production targets. Some reports indicate that inventory deals and price cuts have already begun in 2025, with the possibility of further reductions if demand doesn't pick up. While a straight price cut is not common, it's possible if demand drops significantly. 

Merrit concludes, "I can't wade through the bs anymore. Please don't comment with "prices are falling" "just wait." Does anyone have a truly educated opinion on when/how/method price reductions are realized?"

Here's a more detailed look at what to expect:

• Inventory Deals: Tesla frequently uses inventory deals to move unsold vehicles, and with Cybertruck production slowing, these could become more common, leading to lower prices. 
• Less Expensive Models: There's a possibility that Tesla might introduce more affordable versions of the Cybertruck, making it accessible to a wider range of budgets. But the timing of these releases remains uncertain.

• Used Market: The price of used Cybertrucks may also drop as new models become more readily available, making them an attractive option. 
• Timeline: Some predictions suggest price drops could happen in the second or third quarter of 2025. 

Others expect a more gradual decline over the next few years, with some speculating about a $40,000 starting price in the future.

Given the unpredictability of Tesla's pricing strategy, it's crucial to stay informed about any announcements or changes. This will help you make an informed decision when purchasing a Cybertruck. 

What are Tesla Cybertruck Owners and Recent Buyers Saying?

Laird Popkin - "Tesla hasn't changed prices at all. They first added the $20k foundation series bundle, which they removed, so the CT is selling for the same price it always was. What Tesla has been doing to goose sales is adding some promos like free supercharging or low-interest loans." 

"They added the RWD LR version for a little less, but it is stripped down. The thing I hope comes out this year is adding the base (RWD) trim and 250-mile range, but with the same features and lower price, hopefully with the real Tonneau cover, though."

Gary Love - "With the tax credit and everything, my AWD was $74K out the door. I bought a set of Cyber Wheels off marketplace, so now I have a set for street and a set for off-road. I'd get what you want and won't regret it later. I couldn't justify paying almost $40K more for 1.6 seconds of 0-60 speed, but that's just me."

Drew Lanphar - "I leased my ‘2025 CT in February, starting at $750 a month with $7,500 down. They are now doing $799 a month with $5k down. A saving of $700. As it's still the first half of 2025, and tariffs are staying, I doubt there will be much bigger discounts than that until the end of 2025."

Steven Sonju - "The CT already had a price drop. $80k for an AWD now. I mean how much more can they realistically drop the price before it's not profitable? The amount of tech packed into the truck is insane. They offered a stripped down RWD with a lot less features for $70k." 

"So I doubt we will see a price drop when they just released that option. With sales slowing, we will see 0% APR before a price reduction. They will have to exhaust everyone in the current price bracket before they drop the price. Trucks are still selling."

Conclusion

Don't expect to see significant price drops for the Tesla Cybertruck. 

Eriq Breland says, "Do not buy a Tesla CT if your goal is buy at the lowest possible price. You buy a Cybertruck because it's the best vehicle you can purchase, literally no other vehicle provides as much value. No other vehicle costs less to operate, nothing is cheaper to maintain, nothing has similar performance, nothing provides the same level of safety. And no other vehicle improves over time through free software updates."
