I came across an interesting post from Joe Huante on the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Owners Facebook page, and it's a question that resonates with many truck owners who've just acquired a new 3.0L Duramax. 

He asks, "I'm not sure how ya'll are getting these big mpg numbers? The best I can get is 21.7 on the highway. I roll about 76 mph. I'm wondering if that's why? I can't really go much slower on the highway without getting run over. It's got the 3.0L baby max!"

I have a 22 3.0 GMC Denali Ultimate Diesel I average on the highway after 20 miles of cruising at 75 about 29-30 MPG.

In the city around 25-26 MPG. But like the article says as long as you dont stump on the gas and drive normal. I will achieve these MPG's.

Also replace the long stock airtube in the back of the engine that connects to the turbo. Plus swap the oil pan

I have a baby max 2024 slt. I lifted 3" to save the warrenty (max allowed). D8ve 125 mi round trip to work every day. Exactly half is country highway half is combat driving at 80 mph on the 99 in cali. The rural portion is sheriff central i set cruise on a 55 at 63 amd get 31mpg. 99 portion set cruise at 80 get 24mpg. with lift. I would say set the adaptive cruise. Game changer...

My Sierra SLT with the 3.0 Duramax gets over 30mph highway @ 76mph. RPM's run at about 1600 at that speed. The best tank of fuel range that I have had is just about 850 miles for 25 gallons.

I have a 2024 Suburban LT with the Baby Max! Love it! I find the profile of the terrain is a key factor in the MPG quest. The cruise control is the most important factor to getting great mileage. Use it!!! Great article!

Just drove 805 miles from S Carolina to Michigan, in my 2024 Chevy RST and the trip odometer says 27.7 MPG! It has the baby Duramax and 29K miles with Z71 package.

I have aTahoe with small diesel and I am blessed with it. Hwy up to 35 mpg.
Mixed usage 26. I have no complaints, but I also know how to drive.

I had (unfortunately had to trade in) 2022 ZR2 with the baby max. I was doing handyman work and always had it loaded down. I got over 20 MPG running short trips because I took it slow. On the highway with cruise control high 20’s. Trip to Florida from PA not loaded down mid 30’s on highway. Sure wish I still had it.

I have a 2025 RST with the 3.0L and I average 30.5mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 74mph. Best I've seen was 31.9mpg on a round trip of 59 miles.

I have to agree, I have had my Duramax 3.0 since 2021, GMC Sierra 1500 AT 4, with a factory 2" lift. I can run my truck at 80 mph, cruise set, and get around 21mpg, if I drop the speed to 70, will be closer to 28 mpg. Speed is a huge factor on this platform.

We have an AT4 and South just over 6,000 miles on it we are averaging 25.2 mpg both
for city and highway driving. More in the city, but, we accelerate reasonably and don't run wide open to get to the next red light. City driving is 38 to 30+ mpg. We are retired and not in a hurry. I have noticed that mpg decreases considerably over 70 mph, which is the limit in FL. Try leaving 5 to 10 minutes earlier to get where you need to be all the time. It might surprise you. Best wishes. BMW the 2.7 turbo max motor got great mpg too!!

We have a 2017 GMC Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2 L and 8 spd (POS transmission). Not a 4 wdr but we get 23-24 mpg on the hwy and we drive 80-90 on long trips. Around town we get about 18. 22" rims.
I wonder if Joe's truck just isn't broke in yet? Usually mpg gets better over time.
