I Bought a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado LT Trail Boss in March, and This Thing Is a Piece of Work. I’ve Never Had This Many Problems With a Truck in Such a Short Time

Nicholas has just purchased a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss, thinking it's a great truck. However, he is having second thoughts about the purchase. He's had more problems with it in just a few months than any truck he's ever had.

"Holy smokes, what a lemon!" I can hear Nicholas muttering as he stares at his brand-new yet profoundly problematic 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss.

He'd bought it in March for its off-road capability and rugged looks, only for it to swiftly transform into a monument of mechanical maladies.

First, there were the rear cameras that were supposed to see behind the truck, or at least so he thought.

Both rear cameras had succumbed to an internal fog, rendering them useless.

"Moisture," the Chevrolet dealer had said, replacing them with new ones that, for only one week, offered crystal-clear views.

But then came the next blow: the camera harness, a seemingly innocuous part, decided its clip was broken, throwing the whole system into disarray again.

Just as he was getting over the camera failure issue, the driver's door decided it was the next problem to be fixed.

"Access denied," it seemed to declare as the door latch refused to engage.

Nicholas found himself having to climb in through the passenger side, and it wasn't easy getting his big frame across the expansive center console.

It seems this inconvenience has become a part of his daily routine.

Then came the silence. Not the peaceful kind, but the unsettling kind. One morning, all the sounds in the truck vanished.

There was no radio, no navigation prompts, not even the annoying turn signal clicking. Now, Mark is getting annoyed.

Wait, it's not over yet.

Next, CarPlay decided to play games. His iPhone refused to communicate with the truck's infotainment system.

I can hear Nicholas saying, "For the amount of money we pay for these trucks," he grumbled to himself, "you'd think they'd be built to last longer than a disposable lighter."

He's not done with the new Trail Boss's issues.

The twin lenses of his backup and hitch cameras were a blurry mess with condensation, rendering them useless.

It's back to the Chevrolet dealer again.

Nicholas now has a question for other Chevy Silverado owners. Is he just unlucky, or is this a widespread problem with the Silverado?

He's wondering if anyone else is experiencing these issues with their trucks, or is it just his new Silverado LT Trail Boss?

Nicholas Gross shares this on the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra Owners Facebook page.

He says,

Holy freaking gremlins. This truck is a piece of work. In March, I bought a new 2025 Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss, and I've never had this many problems with a truck in such a short amount of time," Nicholas vents his frustration.

I've already had to replace both rear cameras due to moisture damage and the camera harness due to a broken clip. Additionally, I've had to replace the door latch because the door wouldn't open, and I've lost all sound in my truck, including turn signals. Now, my CarPlay isn't working.

For the amount of money we pay for these trucks, I definitely shouldn't be having these issues.

And another thing, has anyone ever had an issue with water getting inside your backup and hitch cameras?

My Silverado's cameras on the tailgate are both blurry and full of condensation. I'm going to take it back to the dealer, but I want to know if this is a common issue.

Is the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado reliable or not?

Nicholas's frustrating experience raises a critical question about the overall reliability of the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

Generally, the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 receives positive reliability ratings. J.D. Power, for instance, recently predicted a reliability score of 84 out of 100 in its Quality and Reliability Report, indicating strong performance in this area.

However, according to Kelley Blue Book, some owners have reported issues with the 8-speed automatic transmission, citing rough shifting and shuddering. Concerns have also been raised about engine-related problems, such as lifter failures in V8 engines, as well as various electrical system malfunctions.

Notably, the 10-speed transmission is more reliable than its 8-speed counterpart.

Despite these reported issues, Kelley Blue Book indicates that 73% of 2025 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab owners recommend the vehicle, with a significant 50% awarding it a 5-star rating.

Car and Driver further highlights the diverse range of available powertrains, particularly praising the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine paired with the 10-speed transmission for its smooth operation and impressive efficiency.

Furthermore, YouTube videos corroborate some Silverado owners' experiences with the 8-speed automatic transmission exhibiting rough shifting and shuddering.

In the End

The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is generally a reliable truck, especially when equipped with the 10-speed transmission and the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine.

Nevertheless, prospective buyers should be aware of the documented issues concerning the 8-speed transmission and specific engine-related problems.

It is highly advisable to conduct thorough research into specific models and configurations to accurately assess potential risks based on individual needs and expected driving conditions.

According to Nicholas, his initial impressions of the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado LT Trail Boss are far from stellar.

"For the amount of money I just paid for this truck," he reiterated, "it definitely shouldn't be having these issues." His disappointment is palpable.

MY THOUGHTS
If you see one eyed trucks at night, they are usually Chevy. My 06 was terrible about burnt out headlights. Chevy should take pride and replace them for free if you came by their shop

I bought a 2020 Chevy Silverado in November of 2019. I’ve had several problems with it. To begin with, in June of 2020 the lifters failed. (I forget which ones.) The dealer made the necessary repairs. A month or so later, a loud whooshing sound invaded the cab. I found that when I traveled at a high rate of speed ( 75 mph on a windy day) this alarming sound affected the front passenger side of the window. I video recorded the sound and the dealer made a repair. They rehung the passenger side door. I suppose they thought doing this might tighten whatever gaps the air was rushing through. It didn’t work. I returned it and in their second attempt they installed new lining to all the doors. That seems to address the problem for a few years because the noise has returned once again. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention too. That they replaced the transmission with a rebuilt one because the old one was diagnosed to be too problematic. All of these issues have been covered either by the dealer or GMC. It has been time consuming: I’ve always had to prove that I maintained the truck properly and GMC, is slow to respond. They did however follow through. Now it’s been about 5 years and 100K miles since the noisy whooshing sound was taken care of. Since it has now returned, do you think I might still have a claim with either the dealer or manufacturer? Your opinions are appreciated.

My 2019 reverse camera at night is pretty much useless. It is so glaringly bright it blinds you. There is no way to dim it,Chevrolet says too bad, 8 speed tranny felt like someone was kicking the seat in stop and go traffic. Beauty part is dealership said this is normal. Resolved this by taking it to a transmission shop. Infotainment has been an intermittent headache from start going black screen, not connecting reliably. And the kicker is this all pretty much started at beginning of covid. Also had to replace battery at 4k miles. Also had to have the oil cooler lines replaced leaked about a qt. a week. End of rant....

I have a Silverado with the 8L90 8 speed. I have suffered the well documented Torque shudder. Ended up with a rebuilt transmission

It’s widespread and ongoing. Bought a new 2002 Silverado 2500 HD. Stranded with a fuel Pump failure @ 500 miles. Moving it reverse made the e brake kick in, never fixed. Rear axle bearings replaced at 15k miles. Dash would occasionally die when making a left turn. Automatic transmission would lose hydraulic pressure sitting at a stop light. Speaker fell out of the driver’s door. Alternator failed. Steering column developed a terrible knock due to lack of lubricant. Refused to idle in wet weather on cold start. Complete rear axle failure at 33k miles. Chevrolet could not have cared less about me. Traded in at 33k miles for a 2007 Tundra SR5. Still driving that truck and lovin’ it. Never, NEVER, another GM product for me. So sorry for your troubles.

I've owned my 2025 3.0L Duramax chevy trail boss for about 3 weeks now, the only thing that I have issues with is android auto other than that my truck is running great so far. Hopefully I don't run into major issues such as the ones I read about.

i’ve owned my 2025 chevy silverado 1500 crew cab LT since march and have had zero problems with it! i just took it to the dealer for its free service appt! i love this truck and are adding fog lights with necessary front lower bumper additions. my experiences have all been good with this truck and consider it a worthy upgrade from a previous 2017 silverado with a v8 engine and my new ride is the stock 2.7 L 4 cylinder with plenty of torque and a higher top speed than the 2017 model. again i love this ride and look forward to my future improvements !

I have a 2021 Silverado Custom. Serviced on time. Not one issue with 43,000 miles. Very happy...
Great truck!!

I bought a 2021 Chevy Z71. Auto 8 speed transmission that shudders, phone can't always connect to truck, the option for the truck to turn off when at red lights don't work and I'm sure there are some more issues I'm forgetting. Truck cost way too much for so many issues. Will not buy another chevy.

Jim White (not verified)    July 2, 2025 - 3:15PM

I purchased a new 2025 Trail Boss on 06/25/2025. I had to tKe it to the service department today because the fuel range stops working or updates when it wants. At the same time the radio station control on the steering wheel cease working. Stopping and turning the engine off will restart everything most of the time. I read online that this can be due to software needing an update or the Bose amplifier can be causing an issue with the infotainment system.

Hey all,

I am definitely a Chevy man and have been in them for over 50 years. I have owned mostly pickup trucks, 1/2 ton through 1 ton dooly's, some used, some new. Presently, I'm in a 2025, crew cab, one ton, Duramax Diesel, LT model. All miles are hauling a 37 foot camper. Best pulling truck yet and the 10 speed is seamless. Anyhoo, so far, so good, awesome performance! Oh, a pal said, "Oh sure, but what about the fuel mileage?" I could only reply, "Oh sure, who cares?"

I purchased a brand new 2016 Silverado on February 6th 2016 immediately the paint was bad had to have it re-clear-coated at 70,000 miles of transmission went out and had to replace it that was $7,000 I have replaced the air conditioner the transmission the blower motor for the fan the windshield washer pump I have numerous electrical problems the stereo will stop and go it will play a while then just go silent the speakers have static in them really bad even when the radio is off it is a genuine piece of crap and I will never own another Chevrolet product again as long as I live I'm 66 years old and I've been a Chevy man my whole life I hate this truck and I will never have another one I'll go forward I'll go Dodge I'll go Toyota I'll go something beside Chevy they are making pure junk I highly recommend nobody buy one

JV (not verified)    July 2, 2025 - 4:58PM

My comment is about Chevy's Silverado, and about Ford's F150 and about Dodge's Ram as well. Trucks arent trucks anymore. They have traded their farm and construction utility for suburban streets. Their shortened beds can no longer haul a 2x4 stud or sheet of plywood, and no more bags of feed than one can haul in a hatchback sedan. Take 'em off the street and those impressive hunks a plastic that fall off as fast as those marketing phrases lose their "muscular stance." Lean against a body panel or Heaven-forbid, sit on the hood and you become a $5000 body shop regular. Want a truck again? Shop for square bodies and old body styles with throngs of cowboys and construction workers looking for a real truck!

I feel for this guy, but I got it beat. Bought a new LOADED GMC Sierra Denali with the Duramax in September of 2024. I've had 54 warranty claims to date involving transmission, infotainment system, suspension, door, fit & finish, squeaks / rattles, parking sensors, etc... I'm on my 5th (fifth) set of defective tires in the first 8,000 miles of ownership and GM refuses to put on a different brand to solve the issue. The truck is currently in the shop as I write this. It's the most expensive vehicle I've ever owned, and BY FAR the worst quality. And I've even German sports sedans for comparison. The quality of GM product is absolute garbage.

Pete Selley (not verified)    July 2, 2025 - 6:29PM

Yes GMC and Chevy have many problems my 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 with 8 speed Trans has shuttered and banged into gear and shifting since new. So I took it to the dealer in Costa Mesa and they said it needs a flush and wanted me to pay for it so the factory paid half even with gmpp extended warranty what a ripoff so each time it was flushed it would be better for 150 miles then same thing again not happy. So no replacement would be done because it still could be driven and it would have to be towed due to the transmission. Now the ridiculous unsafe vehicle my wife was in twice was serviced by me every 10k miles or every other oil change also serviced the Trans fluid until it broke and was towed due to the Trans so of to the dealer and started the gm owners relation case and after 2 and a half weeks gm calls and said I drove to many miles and it would not be covered at 134k so they admitted in 2024 gm had built 164.000 trucks with this problem and they want 7 thousand to replace the trans so after owning over 50 gm vehicles I will be rid of all my family's and my company's gm vehicles ASAP such a joke they can screw good customers and smile all the way to the bank when a new truck is a 100k or more and they don't give you a jar of Vaseline for the pain in my ass.

Better off with 2 or 3 year old truck, save all that depreciation and all the crap is fixed, or better yet don't buy the big 3. Ford is not better. They need to get their act together, after 100 years still making crap.

Big Bertha (not verified)    July 2, 2025 - 7:36PM

I currently own the 2025 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Truck needs EGR valve replaced however it's on back order. Truck is not safe to drive at the moment it cannot release back to me. Dealership states that the replacement part can take up 2 months or longer to arrived. I’ve already had tires issues which is common on these types of trucks. I’ve contacted GM and I’m awaiting on a response from GM. This is such an inconvenience for a $71,000 truck. Not worth it at all

Mike (not verified)    July 2, 2025 - 7:50PM

I bought my first chev truck during covid. It was a factory order with the 6.2 engine. 10 speed transmission failed at 25,000 km and now there is a recall on the engine. I gave my 2015 bare bones Ram with a 6 speed and the so-called hemi to my son. 250,000 km and no issues.

Aron (not verified)    July 2, 2025 - 8:02PM

Bought a '25 Sierra Denali.

I too had the complete silence issue. Weird one for sure. No sound at all, including blinkers. Also, before I put the first tank of gas in it the A/C blower failed and needed to be replaced.

Hope that's it!

2019 Silverado AM/FM radio does not work switches channels on its own turns on and off when it wants to mess with my digital speedometer can’t read it. Had to different radios put in under warranty. It has 60,000 miles on it. I can’t get anybody to do anything about it dealership does not care I know other people have the same problem and nobody’s heard nothing about it at the dealership or GM at this point, we’ll never buy another GM product again. Worked for them for 31 years and have nothing but GM products. is there anybody else out there that has the same problem?

Hi, I own a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado High Country, 2 nd owner bought it 5 years ago .
Replaced rear shocks, no 7 coil pack , thermostat, and the battery. Of course brakes and rotors. Etc but overall a good truck .👍

Chris (not verified)    July 2, 2025 - 11:25PM

I've got a 25 silverado TB LT and have had the same issue with the reverse cameras at about 4k miles. Now I've been dealing with a rhythmic humming between 30 - 45mph for the last 4k miles that has been in the dealership shop 3x for. Oh not to mention the tapping noise that just started every time i hit a bump that comes from what I'm guessing is the wad of wires between the roof and head liner. SO ANNOYING FOR A TRUCK WITH 10K MILES

Mark (not verified)    July 3, 2025 - 6:50AM

I've been driving 5.3L 8 cylinder silverado's for years. I bought a 2024 5.3L 8 cylinder Z71 Trailboss. I've really never had any issues with them. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best truck out there. Stick with the traditional 5.3L V8. You can't go wrong.

Alan Barnhill (not verified)    July 3, 2025 - 7:57AM

I bought a 2017 Silverado. It was used but in great condition, or atleast I thought. I did buy the extended warranty when I bought it. Glad I did. The lifters went out on it and the transmission at the same time alng with the front hubs. This all happened at the same time. It had around 76,000 miles on it. If it was not for the extended warranty, the dealer would have had to fix it, then put it back on the lot to sell it for me. It took $10,000 to fix it. Less than 2000 miles later, the lifters went out again along with the grill shutter. The warranty only had 2 months left. I found out from the dealer that 2 more two more trucks were in the shop with lifter problems. Mine along with the other two were 1500's with the 5.3 liter engine. I found out from other owners that they too had problems with the 5.3. Engine problems and transmission problems. After mine was fixed again and no check engine lights were on, i set out to get rid of it and decided I would not ever have a 5.3 again. I did stick with Chevrolet though. I bought a 2024, 2500HD ZR2. It has the 6.6 liter gas engine in it with the Allison-Chambers transmission. It is the Bison AEV edition. Yes, its expensive but the best investment I have ever made. Not one problem with it. On the road or off. Responds like crazy and tows like a beast. I have towed some heavy loads with it, cars, pick up trucks, boats, tractors. I have to keep looking in the rear view mirror to make sure the trailors are still there at times. I am sold on this thing. I wont ever go back to a 5.3 1500 again.
