Petition to bring the 2015 Tacoma TRD Pro Series to Canada - Sign it here!

Our friends north of the border are feeling very left out of the Tacoma off-road fun. Here’s how you can help.

We try very hard to bring our readers all the news, opinion, speculation and silly wild guesses we can uncover about the Toyota Tacoma. The fans of the Tacoma are passionate, active, and make their opinions known. Our recent coverage of the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Series brought to light the fact that this special edition off-road Tacoma is not offered in Canada. We have received multiple requests to ask Toyota why that is and if it will be coming.

No Plan for Tacoma TRD Pro In Canada – Yet
After our readers asked us to we reached out to Toyota directly. Three marketing and product managers joined the discussion. The upshot of the reply was that the TRD Pro is not planned for release in Canada. No reasons were given. This is not unusual. Automotive companies don’t want to add insult to injury, so they stick to the facts in matters like this. We do not blame them one bit. Not in writing, but verbally, we did hear that there are some special Tacomas available in Canada, and we will assume that it is TRD components available from dealers, but not that add up to the equal of a TRD Pro.

Next Step -Tacoma Plea
Rather than leave posts under stories about the 2015 TRD Pro Tacoma where they may be lost in the conversation, we came up with the idea to offer this story as a simple petition. If you are from Canada and you want the TRD Pro Series Tacoma to become available simply comment below. Please give us your Province or nearby city and if you have a Tacoma now tell us the year and any details you wish to share. We will forward the story to Toyota directly once folks have had a chance to comment. If you live outside Canada and want to show your support, feel free to jump in.

Like all our posts you are welcome to use a nickname and your e-mail is not published. We don’t spam our readers, and we have nothing to sell but our web content. This is not a sneaky solicitation.

Petition Below In Our Comments Section
To kick off the fun, we are posting some past comments from other stories here in the body of the story. Please keep in mind this in not English class and many readers respond via smart phone, so choppy text is welcome:

From Eric - HI I have a 07 taco 4 L v6.
Love it. Looking to buy a new one and now side tracked with what the 2016
will be better fuel economy wanted for sure. Better electronics make sense in this
quickly changing world, especially one that allows software upgrades as we
get with pretty much all operating systems. This talk of down powered new tacos has me worried. I like passing quickly. Looks I'm not super worried about. Any comments?

From Lee - Any word on whether Toyota will offer the TRD PRO line up in Canada?

From Max - Hello I live in Alberta Canada, and I want to buy a new 2015 Tacoma. I've
been told by the dealers that Canada will not be getting the TRD PRO series
at all. Is this true? Or will I be able to buy one in the fall?

From Shawn M - I want to preorder the 2015 TRD Pro 4 Runner. How do i do this, i live in Canada?

From Brett - Why would Toyota only release the TRD Pro in USA only? I contacted a General Manager of a local Toyota dealer and he informed this was also the case.....very disappointing. This was 3 months ago. TMS has made very poor decisions on which market would be fickle for the special models. All FJ cruiser trail sold out quickly, Canadians love their Toyotas. Hopefully Toyota will look at diesels in their trucks before they lose more market share to other manufacturers. Big opportunity miss by not having diesel in FJ Cruisers, Tacomas, and other trucks in NA market. They have Hilux in other markets and they dominate, makes no sense. Too much ex domestic executives in Toyota making poor decisions like they made in their previous roles. Come on Toyota lead the market, and stop chasing the competition.

And I finally did it. As promised in my post from February 10th, I just got a Xterra pro-4x and I love it. Before they are gone forever, if you believe the rumours...

I just went to a local dealership today (Edmonton,Alberta) to inquire about the Tacoma Pro and was informed that they are only available in the States. I need one! I'm currently driving the 08 Tacoma 4X4 and am ready to buy a new one. Come on Toyota everyone drives trucks here...esp. off road ones.

I'm from Regina, Saskatchewan. I will hold on to my 2012 Tundra until the Tundra TRD Pro! Toyota please bring it to Canada! That red hot colour, black badges and rear view mirror are so sexy sexy sexy!

I own a 06 Tacoma, 215000 km, 6 speed. If Toyota is not bring the New Tacoma Pro Series to Canada, Ontario. I will but my next truck els-wear. Boycot Toyota Canada!

Brian Nelson (not verified)    July 27, 2015 - 9:30PM

I would love to buy a 4runner trd pro. I was told by my home town dealer that they won't bring therm in because they have always told customers that if they lift there 4 runner they void the warranty. So if they sell a lifted one from the factory they would have to warranty customers lifted vehicles. Doesn't make sence to me.

I have a 2006 Tacoma and 2013 Tundra. Great trucks! If a TRD Pro 4Runner was made available in 2016 or 2017 I would buy one in a heartbeat. Need a new work vehicle as the Tundra is getting tired and I don't need the box anymore. I put 80,000 kms on per year in a 50/50 mix of pavement and gravel. I live and work in Alberia.

James Madden (not verified)    October 7, 2015 - 2:50PM

I would lol to buy either the Tacoma pro or Tundra pro if I could. I have a 4 runner now and won't sell untill I cN get a pro

Fred B (not verified)    October 23, 2015 - 1:50PM

Currently own a 2012 FJ (my second FJ). I want Toyota to bring the TRD Pro 4runner to Canada. That would make me trade my FJ. I will take mine in quicksand color, thanks.

gus (not verified)    November 4, 2015 - 10:06PM

would trade in my 15 tacoma limited for a tundra trd pro 2016 for sure,as well as my odyssey for a trd pro 4 runner

SERIOUSLY!!?? OK Toyota your just teasing us right, we WILL be seeing the TRD PRO series vehicles in Canada for 2016 as a 2017 model right? RIGHT!!? I mean, I understand if u first wanted to test out the new vehicles in the USA so that you could of course send us next years new, more refined and super tweaked version! Us patient and Canadians are fine with that and we certainly won't be offended that you've saved the best for last!!! JUST TELL US ITS TRUE!! That the TRD PRO series is coming to the motherland of the great northern outdoorsman, here in Canada. Our feet are twitching, our hands trembling, and our MOUTHS ARE WATERING over this new line of performance off-road vehicles that as of right now are untouchable! Why Toyota why?? We love you and we need you! At your best! At the PROfessional level! This is NECESSARY!! We deserve this, and when you grant us our wish, we'll make you pround, and continue to PROUDLY represent your brand!!! Btw please, please, please offer the crewmax with a longer box! 6.5 would be just fine. It's as simple as this! I need my kids to fit comfortably in the back, and I need a moose to fit comfortably in the box! Car seats are just too tight in a double cab and a 5.5 box is just too damn small. Almost all other manufacturers offer a full crew cab with different box lengths, 6.5 being choice!!!!!!! And please don't sell us SHORT in the pro lineup either! We want a truck that can not only haul people, but all the stuff that goes along with our outdoor lifestyles, camping, hunting, fishing, adventure touring, just to name a few! We also have LOTS TO HAUL!! A Tundra TRD PRO with a 6.5 foot box! Now that would be GOLD! Would a manual transfer case and locking diffs be too much to ask too? For now we'll keep dreaming! May the Toyota gods shine their light upon us!!

I have a 2012 TRD sport and love this truck. I live just outside of Vancouver BC and have taken this thing into so great places. I love the idea of the TRD pro but I'm just disappointed that you can't even get an off-road in the 4 door short box. The access cab is really useless for more than 2 people. It really is a shame as I have become a loyal Toyota owner. Having said that seeing what my friend can do in his Nissan pro 4x maybe my next truck won't be a Toyota. That's a sad though.

werpor (not verified)    December 21, 2015 - 11:38PM

I have a 2001 Toyota 4 Runner with 325,000 km on the odometer. It is in great shape. I spare no expense to keep it 'running' and looking like new. One particular feature I like is the interior length. For me much better than volume.
If Toyota produce a truly rugged interior with say, cordura upholstery, and a more Spartan interior I would be quick to buy one. In the event Toyota sold the TRD in Canada I would certainly buy one. But I would not sell my 2001 — 4 Runner. I have been offered $18,000 for it. But no dice.
Surprisingly, once it is up to speed, it doesn't take much to be running at 95/100 mph. But practicality is where it shines. Towing and launching my boat is handled easily. Skis — I toss them in the back. No need for a box! My dog? No problem. When we open our summer place it really shines. The stuff we pack into it is truly amazing.
But admittedly I would like a new 4 Runner. But I do not want glitz and glamour. Of course I appreciate good looks — but not leather and chrome. I want a carpeted interior but I also want to be able to buy good well fitting mats and 'bed' liner.
I fly fish, musky fish, downhill ski, x country ski, own and transport two canoes, and own a dog - all activities which lead to water and muddy interiors. And sometimes I sleep in the back. A flat 'bed' is much appreciated.
Thank You

Werpor
I own a few trucks but trucks are not always ideal. I like my gear inside my vehicle.

Mark (not verified)    December 31, 2015 - 2:32PM

Why can't we get a crew cab shortbox auto version of the Taco when our brothers to the south have them? Local dealers won't even look at trying to special order one. My '97 Taco has been awesome, but its time to get more seats as the boy and his dog won't fit anymore.

Frank (not verified)    March 12, 2016 - 9:13AM

I've never owned a truck before but would buy a Tacoma TRD PRO TODAY!
The Tacoma option combinations available in Canada are very disappointing vs those in USA.
Specifically, double cab/off-road/auto/short box - the PRO would be the only one.
Please bring the PRO to Canada asap!
Thanks

Rob (not verified)    March 16, 2016 - 8:49PM

Toyota Canada, please bring the Off-Road Double Cab to Canada in whatever form, but preferably long box, and I will absolutely for sure buy one immediately. No DB OR, no Toyota for me.
