It is hard to believe that the Toyota Corolla’s first model year was 1967. Particularly for this writer born in 1967. I don’t remember seeing any. Later, the car became quite a hit and is now one of the most popular cars and most built cars overall. To celebrate the Corolla turning 50 Toyota is creating a special edition and marking the milestone with some fun.

The 2017 Toyota Corolla Special Edition will be limited to “just” 8,000 units in the U.S. For many cars that is a full year’s worth of the model, but it is a drop in the bucket for the Corolla. The new trim will have the following features:
• 17” Alloy Wheels with Dark Gray Inserts and Machine Finish
• 7-inch High-Resolution Touch-Screen
• Entune Audio Plus with Connected Navigation (Scout® GPS Link App)
• Color 4.2-inch TFT Multi-Information Display
• Smart Key system with push button start
• Complex-LED Headlamps
• Black mixed media seats with Black Cherry contrast stitching
• Black interior with Black Cherry contrast stitching on steering wheel, shift boot and center armrest
• Black cherry accented dash panel and door trim
• 50th Anniversary Edition floor mats
• 50th Anniversary Edition exterior badge
• Available Moonroof
In addition, the 2017 Corolla will have available Toyota Safety-Sense-P. That safety package includes:
• Pre-collision system with pedestrian detection function
• Dynamic radar cruise control
• Lane departure alert with steering assist function
• Automatic high beams

Note that the pre-collision system will be included at no extra cost on all 2018 Corollas. Folks that would like to share their Corolla stories to celebrate the 50th-anniversary can do so at corolla50.toyota.com, or by using the hashtag #Corolla50.
