Video: 2017 Mazda CX-9 Earns Top Safety Pick Plus Rating From IIHS

The all-new Mazda CX-9 has just earned the top safety rating from IIHS.

The all-new 2017 Mazda CX-9 has just earned the Top Safety Pick Plus rating from IIHS.This is a major improvement from the prior rating of the last-generation CX-9. This new top rating now positions the Mazda CX_9 alongside the class-leading Toyota Highlander for the best safety in the popular three-row crossover segment.

The new Top Safety Pick Plus rating of the Mazda CX-9 is a huge improvement over the outgoing generation. The prior CX-9 was tested by IIHS in 2014 and covers model years 2007-2015. In prior testing, the older generation scored Poor on the important small frontal overlap test. The Prior CX-9 also scored just Marginal on the headrest and Roof Crush test.

The all-new Mazda CX-9 scores a Good rating on all crash evaluations. It also has a Superior-rated automatic emergency braking system. Headlights in the new CX-9 earn and Acceptable rating. The new crash tests were done on the 2017 model year vehicle, but the 2016 model year CX-9 is of the same design. It is important to note that for 2017, the IIHS crash tests became more difficult for vehicles to earn a top score.
