The 2018 Ford Mustang GT is the most powerful pony car to wear these badges, packing 460 horsepower and 420lb-ft of torque, but the Motor Company has also promised that it will dash from 0 to 60mph in under four seconds. There has been no official 0-60 time announced, but even if “under four seconds” means 3.9-seconds, that will easily make this the quickest Mustang GT ever.
A big part of the 2018 Ford Mustang GT’s ability to hit 60 in less than four seconds is the traction offered by the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires which come as part of the new Mustang GT Level 2 Performance Pack. That package, which also includes all of the features of the Level 1 Performance Pack along with unique 19-inch wheels wrapped in the aforementioned tires, a uniquely-tuned MagneRide suspension system, a more aggressive chin spoiler and a new rear spoiler, has an MSRP of $6,500, but how much will it actually cost to buy a 2018 Mustang GT with the Level 2 setup?
Today, we take a look at the likely cost of the best-performing 2018 Mustang GT.
Building the Level 2 Mustang GT
Unfortunately, the Level 2 Performance Pack is not yet available on Ford.com, but we can figure out the pricing of the total packaged based on the available information.
The 2018 Ford Mustang GT fastback with the 6-speed manual transmission and the destination fee has a starting price of $35,995. The 301A package is required with the Level 2 Performance Pack, so the popular equipment package adds $2,000, bringing the price up to $37,995 and the performance pack itself adds $6,500 for a total price of $44,495.
If you compare that to the price of a 2018 Mustang GT with the Level 2 Performance Pack, 301A and the MagneRide suspension setup - $43,685 – you are really only paying $810 for the wheels, tires, body bits and unique suspension tuning of the Level 2 package.
Finally, the Active Valve Performance Exhaust system and the Recaro race seats are not included in the Performance Packs, but since those are items that a high performance muscle car buyer will want, you can go ahead and factor them in as well – lifting the price to $46,985.
Mustang GT Premium Level 2
Those 2018 Ford Mustang GT buyers who want the most features with the greatest performance will want to opt for the GT Premium with the Level 2 Performance Pack. The 2018 Mustang GT Premium fastback with the 6-speed manual transmission has a starting price of $39,995 including destination. When you add in the 401A package that is required with the Level 2 Performance Pack, the price rises by $2,200 for the popular equipment package before adding the $6,500 upcharge of the performance package.
When you add it all up, the 2018 Mustang GT Premium fastback with the Level 2 package has a starting price of $48,695, which climbs to $49,590 when you add the Active Exhaust system and $51,185 with the Recaro seats.
So, if you want the best-performing 2018 Ford Mustang GT, you can expect to pay anywhere from $45,000 to $52,000, depending on the exact trimline and the options chosen.
