A problem with engine stalling is forcing Ram to recall some of its most popular trucks. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ram is recalling 131,700 2021 Ram 1500 pickups because there is a risk the engines can stall without warning and cause an accident. The recall affects all of the 2021 Ram 1500s equipped with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 with eTorque engines.
What is Causing the Problem
According to the NHTSA website, a problem with the Power Control Module software can cause an incorrect fuel mixture, which can lead to engine stalling. Ram’s parent company Fiat-Chrysler started an investigation on January 20, 2023. The company says as of March 30, 2023, one accident has been reported but there were no injuries. Apparently, hundreds of owners had filed warranty claims about their engines stalling.
How Ram Will Fix the Problem
According to Ram, dealers will be able to update the Power Control Module software and fix the issue. Ram is expected to start notifying truck owners about the recall on June 2, 2023. Drivers will have to return to dealers to get the PCM update. All of the work will be done free of charge. Owners will be told to contact their dealers for the service appointments. Any Ram owners with additional concerns may contact customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Fiat Chrysler’s number for this recall is 37A.
