Chrysler Pacifica And Voyager Models Recalled Due To Possible Airbag Malfunction

Chrysler currently has only two models, which are both minivans, and are being recalled due to airbag issues.

Chrysler’s present position is one of transition and challenge. The brand, part of the Stellantis automotive group, now sells only one main model, the Chrysler Pacifica minivan, after discontinuing its plug-in-hybrid versions and other cars like the Chrysler 300 in recent years. As of 2025, the near-identical Chrysler Voyager is mostly meant to be a fleet offering. Stellantis has teased a refreshed 2027 Pacifica with bold new styling, keeping the brand alive while it plans future products. However, a new service recall affects the current Pacifica and Voyager models.

Tending to the issue promptly may be key to the success of the two minivans, as there seems to be a resurgence in the segment.

Airbag may not deploy properly

The service recall is about the head airbag, which may not deploy properly due to insufficient pressure, leading to increased risk of injury. Affected vehicles include Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager from the 2022 to 2024 model years. More specifically, cars produced 10 May 2022 and 3 November 2024.

The total number of affected vehicles is 250,651. This includes both the Voyager and Pacifica models. The recall is listed under code 06C for both minivans.

Why the Pacifica is more important for Chrysler than you think

Chrysler Pacifica can tow up to 3,600 pounds

Chrysler’s lineup has shrunk over the years. The 300 was discontinued back in December 2023, leaving the brand with only two (almost identical) models currently on offer, all of which are minivans. Those include the Pacifica, which is getting a new plug-in hybrid model in 2027, and the Voyager, which is 0.5 inches shorter and a more budget-friendly offering, aimed at fleet owners or more budget-conscious buyers.

With mother-company, Stellantis, currently facing restructuring and financial challenges, Chrysler’s minivan models are even more important to the brand’s survival. Moveover, they are doing surprisingly well. The Pacifica in particular, has been consistently outselling rivals like the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey. For 2025, Chrysler sold 110,006 units compared to Toyota’s 101,486 and Honda’s 88,462 units sold.

Minivans not only continue to hold their market niche, but sales figures show steady trends. In fact, Toyota’s Sienna, despite losing its V-6, is seeing an increase in sales. Meanwhile, the Pacifica and Voyager remain some of the few minivans to offer a V-6 engine still.

The 3.6-liter, Pentastar V-6 has a proven track record and is perfect for buyers wanting a simpler, more traditional powertrain. With 287 horsepower at 6,400 RPM and 262 pound-feet at 4,000 RPM, performance is adequate, and fuel economy is more than reasonable, at 22 MPG combined (EPA), with 19 MPG city and 28 highway. The transmission is a Mercedes-derived, nine-speed automatic - a variant of the same unit found in high-performance models like the AMG GT63.

The upcoming PHEV model is significantly more fuel-efficient at 82 MPGe combined, but ditches the V-6 for a new, 2.0-liter Hurricane turbo-four.
