The 2022 Toyota Corolla Manual Might Need Some Thinking, Here’s Why

Some Corolla Hatchback Manual drivers expressed their thoughts on Toyota either making a remote start feature or getting an aftermarket remote start system.

Canada…cold, beautiful, and filled with moose. Cold is its number one feature, especially in the wintertime. A lot of cars today have remote start features where you can either start your car from your key or you can start your car and select what temperature you want it to be set to. This is great, but we mostly see this in automatic transmission cars. After doing some research, I couldn’t find a single manual car with a factory remote start feature.

Dex86, a Canadian who writes on Toyotanation.com, a Toyota forum, "said I really wish they had the remote start on their manuals, but I understand the potential safety problem with the car being in gear and then started. I live in Canada, and I would love to be able to start up my car from inside for it to warm up before I go out during winters.”

This is an annoying problem I’m sure a lot of cold climate citizens experience, especially if they drive a manual. Of course, there are many aftermarket systems you can add and buy which essentially can be a remote start system for your manual car, however, would you really trust it?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Manual Might Need Some Thinking, Here’s WhyAccessorides, a vendor on Toyotanation.com said, “Remote starters on manuals used to be pretty risky business but today's equipment is much safer and works great.” I agree with them, technology in the automotive sector has improved so much that I think Toyota has the knowledge to create a safe remote start feature for manual cars. Maybe add some sort of auxiliary heater or change the transmission in a way that won’t affect the safety. I’m not an expert on this topic however I and many other manual drivers would definitely like to see remote start added to manual cars.

In our recent articles, we have said that Toyota is starting to bring back manual cars not just in sports cars but also in regular daily drivers as well. I think if Toyota sees this as its next step, then Toyota is going to have to implement some technologies from automatic cars that are not supported in manuals like a remote start. I honestly would like to see what a self-driving manual car would look like. Would the compute shift the gears? Maybe I just shift while the car does the driving.

What do you think? Would you like a remote start in your manual car? Let us know in the comments below.
