Tesla FSD 12 - Nothing But "Neural Nets" First Video Drives Revealed: Are We Ready For Robotaxis Yet?

We have some of the first drives on video from Tesla's FSD version 12 software, using nothing but neural nets. How did these drives go, and are we ready for robotaxis yet?

Tesla FSD V12 - Nothing But Nets - First Videos

We have several videos of Tesla's FSD version 12 in action. So far, this has been released widely to Tesla's internal employees. The first video here is from Whole Mars Catalog and is just over 6 minutes.

In this video, the car drove well, however, it needed a bit of a push on the accelerator to get out of the parking lot and to make a left turn on the road. There were cars on the sides that may have been blocking visibility that caused this to happen, however.

Still, this will need to be solved for robotaxis to happen. The Tesla car cannot just sit there and do nothing, so I'm afraid to say we aren't quite ready for robotaxis yet.

One thing about FSD is that it always turns its blinkers on, and it always does its best to stay in the center of the lane it is in. It never forgoes using a blinker when it needs to make a turn or lane change. This is much better than most humans.

Besides waiting to enter the road and make an unprotected left-hand turn, this drive went really well!

Another FSD V12 Set of Videos

There was another video posted, this time of what appears to be from others social media posts, showing FSD V12 in action.

In this particular video, the car handles a roundabout like a champion and also properly signals as it exits the roundabout.

A few months ago, Elon Musk did a live stream of FSD V12, and you can see that here. It's a long video and the quality isn't the greatest, but gives another glimpse into how it does.

I'd say there isn't a huge difference between this version of FSD and the prior version, however, the stage is set for a much more rapid pace of improvement and innovation due to using nothing but neural nets. This allows the system to be trained and improved upon with video training and data labeling, instead of relying on human code.

I'm excited to see how FSD evolves over the coming years. Now, if Tesla could just come up with an automated solution to clean the cameras when they are dirty and distort the vision system.
