Tesla FSD 12.2.1 Executes "Butter Smooth" U-Turn With No Margin For Error And No Intervention

Tesla's FSD 12.2.1 just executed a U Turn, something I've never seen FSD do, and there was no margin for error here. The driver did not intervene in any way with this turn.

Tesla FSD - Butter Smooth U-Turn

A Tesla vehicle with the latest version of FSD was seen recently doing a "butter smooth" U-Turn, in the same lanes of traffic with no margin for error. The driver also did not intervene, whatsoever.

The car was in the left turn lane in the middle of traffic. To execute this U-Turn, the car signaled its left blinker and immediately turned to the left and went into the right lane going the other direction.

After that, it maintained a heading going straight forward. The driver was stunned at what the Tesla did, saying he had never seen the car do that before.

Tesla's FSD has been largely forgotten after many years and promises of robotaxis. Elon Musk may be late on his promise for robotaxis, but each version of FSD improves upon the previous and at some point, in some version, it's going to be good enough to get regulatory approval in the United States.

When this happens, and we start to see the first Tesla driving around without a driver, it's going to be a FRENZY of news and I wouldn't be surprised to see Tesla's stock price jump - and not just up, but up and down in a volatile way as people try to decipher what this means exactly.

Where Do Things Go From Here?

Things go from here with future updates to FSD until we get to version 13. When will version 13 get released? It's anybodies guess, but it should be a step increase from 12 - meaning it should outdo version 12 in every single way.

Eventually, with all the video and training data that Tesla has, autonomy will get solved.

George Hotz, the founder of Comma AI, thinks it's still a decade away, while others think it will be sooner than that.

Some have called Tesla's FSD ChatGPT for the real world on the roads. It's input in with the cameras and what they see, and an output from the neural net that has been trained on all the real-world data that represents the roads.

A wide release of Tesla FSD should happen this year. I plan on trying it for a month and sharing a video and my experience with it.
