The Average New Pickup Truck Sells For About $67K In the U.S. As Tesla Cybertruck Gets Over 2/3 Of First Time Truck Buyers And 300 Miles for $20 of Electricity

The average price of a new pickup truck in the U.S. is about $67K. In addition to that, a survey sees that over 2/3 of people buying the Cybertruck likely have never owned a truck before. One owner shows $20 of electricity for 300 miles.

First Time Truck Buyers of the Cybertruck

Sawyer Merritt on X says that based on the number of Cybertruck owners he has spoken to, about 70% of those have never owned a truck before. He also states that most truck buyers are lifestyle buyers these days, making it difficult to gauge potential annual demand for the Cybertruck. He also says that 250,000 per year may be low.

We saw a huge amount of Cybertrucks at Giga Texas recently, showing that Tesla is ramping the production of the Cybertruck quite nicely. There is, however, still no word from Tesla on how much production volume they are reaching.

Elon Musk has said that Tesla is trying to get to a 250,000 per year run rate on the Cybertruck. This will eventually not be the Foundation Series Cybertrucks, which sell for $100,000 or more and bring the price down to a more affordable level for the masses as Tesla reaches volume production.

The price of a new pickup truck in the U.S. is about $67K right now. In order for Tesla to get to 250,000 or more, Sawyer thinks the average Cybertruck price may need to be $60K or less.

Is 250,000 Per Year Too Low?

One X user seems to think that a 250,000 per year target is too low for the Cybertruck - saying those numbers are just for California, Texas, and New York - and that Elon Musk needs to 10x that target production.

It's possible that the Cybertruck demand for the entire world will be about 2 million Cybertrucks, depending on what variants are needed for Europe, Asia, and other locations.

The Cybertruck is the most unique production vehicle on the market today, with its unique angular design, and it has the ability to stop bullets... It's hard to argue that 250,000 may not be high enough for a yearly production and delivery target.

I currently own 2-each Ford F-150 and my last new ICE pickup truck was a Toyota Tundra 4X4. The new Cybertruck is awesome and exceeds all expectations. Absolutely love the steer by wire with 35 inch tires and air suspension the vehicle floats over road imperfections. Most importantly, 300 miles on $20 worth of electricity!!!
