2024 Tesla Cybertruck

Will has a Tesla Cybertruck, and it's his first visit to the service center. He has six issues that need fixing on his new electric truck, and he's not the only owner with problems. Does Tesla have quality control issues? What are other CT owners saying?

Does Tesla have quality control issues with the Cybertruck?

Here is another Cybertruck owner reporting that his new truck is at the service center due to multiple issues. Will Ye Jr. took his new Cybertruck to the service center because of various problems. Are they isolated or common issues experienced by other owners?

Here is what Will says, as well as what other Cybertruck owners are saying on the Tesla Cybertruck Talk Facebook page.

Will says, "It's my first visit to the Tesla Service Center, and six things are already wrong with it. One issue is the wind noise. The wind noise is coming from the passenger front side of the window, and it's making me crazy."

He then takes a screenshot of the Tesla service order he submitted and the "Service in Progress' he received after he took it in. The passenger front window wind noise is just one of six issues that Will's Cybertruck is in the service center for being fixed.

First, imagine buying a new Cybertruck and expecting it to be a quiet truck because it's an electric vehicle. However, after you've had the new truck for a few days, you notice a wind noise coming from the passenger side front window.

Then you have a problem with the driver's side seat belt, the windshield wipers won't clean properly, the tires seem low on air, the Sentry Mode camera is cloudy, you can't see clearly, and the frunk doesn't open properly.

Those are all issues Will has with his new Cybertruck.

Here is the list from Will's ticket he submitted at the Tesla Service Center in Lawrence Township, New Jersey. The repairs have been submitted and are in progress.

  • Seat Belts Won't Retract
  • Wind Noise Coming from the passenger front Window
  • Windshield Wipers Don't Clean Properly
  • Check the Tire Pressure and Condition of the Tires
  • Clear Forward Camera View (Precision Cleaning of Inboard Glass)
  • The customer states, "Also, the trunk doesn't open all the way. Once I hit 'open,' it pops up, then it gets stuck, and I have to press the option again for it to open fully. I forgot to add that to the ticket."

What are other Cybertruck owners saying?

Dakota Buuck - "Mine was in the shop five times before they finally figured out how to fix the wind noise; if the wind noise is coming from the passenger front side of the window, it is the window in front of it has a bad seal, even though you can't see it, they replaced the window last week and quiet as a church mouse inside."

Will says, "That's precisely where it's coming from, and it's making me crazy."

Wink Av - "They "fixed" my air leak from the driver-side door the first time, and it came back; I went there twice more both times, they couldn't feel the air (it usually happens when it's colder), so they refused to take it in even though  I told them it's driving me crazy it happens for sure and you can feel cold air coming in, and the door frame grease smell."

“I still get it almost daily at night, mostly when the AC is off. So they won't test it unless the mechanic can feel it in the test drive, which is bananas."

"It's been a struggle, to be honest; every week or two, there's something new. Now it's the battery draining too fast while parking. I knew it would need fixes here and there, but it's starting to feel bad."

Many Cybertruck owners, like Will, are expressing their frustration with the wind noise inside the cabin.

This common issue is not only disrupting their driving experience but also their overall satisfaction with the Cybertruck.

Shannon Feick and her husband are dissatisfied with the excessive wind noise inside their truck. Their frustration is evident in Shannon's story

Imagine the disappointment of being one of the first to own a Cybertruck, investing nearly $80,000 in Tesla's electric truck, only to find significant wind noise inside the cabin. It's a letdown that many early adopters are experiencing.

In another Tesla Cybertruck Owners Facebook post, Shannon says,

"My Tesla Service Center refuses to address the insane wind noise in my Cybertruck. No matter what I ask for, even paying out of my pocket, I get denied."

She says, "The first tech said it was an issue during the test drive. He also stated that Tesla was aware of the problem and is working on a solution. The second tech also acknowledged the wind noise, yet both visits resulted in no change or fix for the problem."

Here's a more detailed look at the Tesla Cybertruck's wind noise issue:

1. Reported Issues:

  • Wind noise, particularly around the windows and door seals, has been a common complaint among Cybertruck owners.
  • Some owners have described the noise as loud and disruptive.
  • The Cybertruck's design, with its flat panels and minimal gaps, exacerbates wind noise issues.

2. Tesla's Response and "Tape" Solution:

  • Some owners have reported that Tesla service centers have recommended using tape to seal panel gaps as a fix for wind noise.
  • Tesla has acknowledged that the noise can be caused by air turbulence at higher speeds and that the vehicle's body fitment may not allow for panel adjustments.

Does Tesla have a solution for the Cybertruck's wind noise problem?

Some Cybertruck owners have reported successful solutions for wind noise, though they haven't been officially released by Tesla. One standard solution involves using a rubber seal to reduce turbulence between the windshield and the roof glass.

Some owners have also found that adding extra cushioning or applying felt to the door seals can help. Tesla service centers have also been reported to fix the issue by adding more cushioning or felt in certain areas.

Cybertruck Owners Club members have reported success with a continuous rubber seal that fits around the glass roof, particularly the seams. This seal seems to reduce the turbulence and wind noise generated in that area.

Tesla's Official Response:

While some owners have found success with these methods, Mashable reports that Tesla's official response has been to suggest temporary fixes, such as duct tape, according to some reports.

Conclusion:

Will is understandably disappointed with his new Tesla Cybertruck. The wind noise is a significant issue, but Tesla is addressing five other problems with his CT at the moment. Will he get them all resolved? Time will tell.

J.S. Labard says, "A box of donuts, when I dropped off my Cybertruck at the service center, worked wonders."

Once again, we see how poorly built the CT is. Why haven't folks figured this out yet? We have.
