The Next-Gen Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid Shows Up In The UK But It’s Not For U.S. Customers

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek was announced for the UK, but it's significantly different than the U.S. specification model. Check out the all-new European model and why it's not sold in North America.

Subaru announced a new next-generation 2024 Crosstrek Hybrid trim level in the U.K., but why is it not available for U.S. customers? The Subaru XV nameplate has also been dropped in favor of calling it the Subaru Crosstrek, as the automaker does in North America.

Customers in the U.S. and Canada don't get the 2025 Crosstrek hybrid trim level, but don't be disappointed. Customers in the U.K. only get one 2024 Crosstrek trim level, the Crosstrek e-Boxer hybrid. They miss out on the U.S.-specification 2024 Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and all-new rugged Wilderness trim level with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine upgrade.

If you have read my reports, I have covered the e-Boxer hybrid in detail in the Japanese, Australian, and European Subaru Forester and previous XV models. The new 2024 Crosstrek is powered by the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder direct-injection e-Boxer engine, producing 136ps and 182 Nm of torque as in previous European spec models.

Subaru of America and Canada won't be getting the Crosstrek e-Boxer Hybrid. Why doesn't Subaru sell the next-generation Crosstrek e-Boxer Hybrid in North America?

Subaru says they will offer "new strong hybrid vehicles scheduled for release in the mid-2020s for U.S. customers." I've reported recently that the next-generation 2025 Forester Hybrid will arrive next year.

Subaru has neither confirmed nor denied the information, but the Crosstrek and Outback Hybrid trim levels will likely follow the Forester Hybrid in the next two years. But they will have new technology, not seen the e-Boxer models.

Subaru Corporation will develop the new hybrid technology with Toyota. The technology will significantly differ from the 2024 Crosstrek e-Boxer hybrid recently announced for the U.K.

The new Forester Hybrid will have an improved all-electric range and increased fuel mileage compared with the current e-Boxer Forester and Crosstrek. How much improvement? Subaru Corporation has yet to release details of the 2025 Forester Hybrid.

I will cover the announcement when Subaru of America makes it. Stay tuned.

It's the super extra mild hybrid (think: sewing machine electric motor) already seen in the XV - from US mileage figures of the non-hybrid version, there is almost Zero gain in fuel economy w the hybrid.

Some local auto press also reports a cut in both power And torque over the XV's 2l hybrid - so it's been deliberately Detuned, if true. Maybe to improve fuel economy and CO2 (there are road tax implications), but we won't know because they don't publish those figures lol. Basically over here you can't make an objective comparison with it's rivals - you have to Just Want a Subaru on your driveway.

BTW Sub's website don't give power output or mpg on Any of their models (the Outback here is the same 2.5l non-hybrid as the US).
