New Subaru Crosstrek Vs Used - Why You Don’t Want A 1-5 Year Old Model Now

Should you buy a new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek or a lightly used 1- to 5-year-old used Crosstrek? See why buying a new model is your best choice now.

Affordable used models are vanishing if you are looking for a lightly-used Subaru Crosstrek. A recent report from iSeeCars says the average used car's price has increased by 47.7 percent since the pandemic. A used Subaru Crosstrek is now among the top 12 models that are the hardest to find, priced under $20,000.

iSeeCars analyzed over 10.8 million 1- to 5-year-old used cars and found the average used car cost $22,493 in 2015, with a slight bump to $23,351 in 2019. But over the last four years, used car prices have exploded – ballooning to $34,491 in 2023, a 47.7 percent rise, averaging more than 10 percent each year.

2024 Subaru Crosstrek is a good value now over a used model

iSeeCars data reveals In 2019, about 42% of used Subaru Crosstrek models cost less than $20,000. But in 2023, less than 5 percent of them are priced under $20,000, and these same used models also have nearly twice as much mileage as they did in 2019.

The Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV is number twelve on the list of least affordable used cars you can buy today.

I just bought a 2024 Crosstrek Limited, the sticker price on it with the Harman kardon speaker package was 33k, another dealership tried getting me to buy a 2021 premium trim level with 3500 miles on it for 30k! I asked the kid if he was stupid or if he thought I was...why would I pay that much for a used car 2 trim levels below what I got with more miles on it when I could get a brand new one with no miles for a couple thousand more?

The 2024 Crosstrek is one ugly car. I recently purchased a 2021 limited Crosstrek in excellent condition @24k miles and have zero regrets for now. And to hedge risk purchased a Subaru gold plus warranty since I intend to drive the car a fair bit. That being said next cat has to have a E-CVT or it has to be a EV. It's disappointing to read about the CVT issues that subarus experience and I for one intend to change the fluid @ every 30k miles, but I knew this and still purchased the 2021 Crosstrek because it's a great car in other ways.
