The 2023 Subaru Legacy is still alive. Even though sales are anemic, the midsize sedan shows signs of life in June. Still, sales of the Subaru Legacy midsize sedan follow industry trends as many shoppers buy small and midsize SUVs instead of sedans.
Subaru of America reports they delivered 2,347 new Legacy midsize sedans to customers last month compared with 2,026 in June 2022, an increase of 15.8 percent. With the uptick, the Legacy sedan is still down 3.0 percent in the first six months of 2023. Legacy has 11,960 model sales throughout the first half of 2023 compared with 12,335 in the same period in 2022.
The Legacy is the sixth best-selling model in Subaru of America's all-wheel-drive lineup, moving ahead of the WRX. The midsize sedan is still the only Subaru of America model with negative sales in 2023.
Subaru is not giving up the Legacy sedan.
Subaru gave the 2023 Legacy new upgrades. Legacy is still a good value for shoppers looking for an all-wheel-drive sedan with all-weather capability. Legacy is the only sedan in America with all trim levels that come with standard all-wheel-drive that you don't pay extra for.
Legacy gets new upgrades.
The 2023 Legacy midsize sedan has a redesigned front fascia and the latest EyeSight safety technology. In addition, Subaru also updated Legacy's multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The refreshed 2023 Subaru received a more prominent grille and redesigned LED headlights. However, the big jump in price for the Sport trim is because it now comes standard with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. As a result, Subaru dropped the Limited XT trim level. In addition, a new wide-angle Mono Camera is added to the 2023 Legacy Touring XT trim level.
As mentioned above, the 2023 Legacy is still the only midsize sedan with standard all-wheel-drive making it a safe all-weather sedan. Moreover, you don't pay extra for Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system. The Legacy also gets the highest safety scores from the IIHS. In addition, the Legacy gets good fuel mileage, and it runs on regular unleaded, not the more expensive premium fuel.
What is the price of the 2023 Legacy?
The 2023 Legacy sedan now comes in five trim levels. The 2023 midsize sedan starts at $25,415 for the base trim, Premium ($27,715), Limited ($32,465), Sport with a new 2.4-liter turbo engine ($34,915), and top-of-the-line Touring XT ($38,715). Destination and delivery fees are included in the pricing above ($1,020).

What's new for 2024 Legacy models?
Legacy Base and Sport trim get new upgrades. The Base Subaru Legacy dome light has been upgraded to LED. The 2024 Subaru Legacy Sport trim level now comes standard with the Subaru Starlink 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system featuring a Harman Kardon speaker system with a 576-watt equivalent amplifier.
What is the price of the 2024 Subaru Legacy?
For the 2024 model year, the Legacy sedan is still available in five trim levels. The base is priced at $25,985, Premium ($28,285), Sport ($35,585), Limited ($33,035), and Touring XT ($39,285). Destination and delivery fees are included in the price above ($1,090).
How much did the 2024 Legacy increase in price?
All Legacy trim level prices increased by $570 except for the Sport trim level, which raised $670. In addition, dealer fees increased by $70 per vehicle.
Sales of the newly-upgraded 2023 Subaru Legacy midsize sedan were up in June but were down for the first half of the year. Legacy still holds the distinction as the only Subaru nameplate with negative sales in 2023. The Subaru Legacy gets a D for its six-month report card.
