4 Reasons Why The Subaru Legacy Is Still Your Best Pick This Spring

The 2023 Subaru Legacy received new upgrades, and sales took another upturn in April. Check out the midsize sedan report and why it's the best pick this spring.

If you want to buy a 2023 Subaru Legacy sedan, it's one of the best midsize sedans for shoppers. And sedan shoppers in April took advantage of the Legacy's best attributes.

Subaru of America reports they delivered 2,494 new Legacy midsize sedans to customers compared with 2,397 in April 2022, an increase of 4.1 percent. Despite the rise, the Legacy sedan is still down 4.6 percent in the first four months of 2023. Legacy has 7,554 model sales throughout the first four months of 2023 compared with 7,917 in the same period in 2022.

The Legacy is the seventh best-selling model in Subaru of America's all-wheel-drive lineup. The BRZ sports coupe and all-new Solterra EV were the only vehicles with fewer sales in April.

The Legacy received new upgrades for the 2023 model year, and it's a good value for shoppers looking for an all-wheel-drive sedan. This is now the second consecutive month of sales increase for the Legacy.

The 2023 Legacy midsize sedan has a redesigned front fascia and the latest EyeSight safety technology. In addition, Subaru also updated Legacy's multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other new upgrades for 2023

The refreshed 2023 Subaru received a more prominent grille and redesigned LED headlights. However, the big jump in price for the Sport trim is because it now comes standard with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. As a result, Subaru dropped the Limited XT trim level. In addition, a new wide-angle Mono Camera is added to the 2023 Legacy Touring XT trim level.

Four reasons why the Legacy is a good pick for shoppers this spring.

The 2023 Legacy is still the only midsize sedan with standard all-wheel-drive making it a safe all-weather sedan. Moreover, you don't pay extra for Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system. The Legacy also gets the highest safety scores from the IIHS. In addition, the Legacy gets good fuel mileage, and it runs on regular unleaded, not the more expensive premium fuel.

What is the Legacy fuel mileage?

The standard naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine gets an EPA-estimated 27/35 mpg city/highway and 30 combined mpg.

The EPA says the Sport and Touring XT trims with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine return an estimated 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 26 combined mpg.

With gas prices rising, do you need the more expensive grade of gasoline for the 2023 Legacy turbocharged engine? If you buy any new 2023 Subaru Legacy trim level, the sedan is designed to run the best on 87-octane gasoline, and you don't need expensive Premium or mid-grade fuel.

What is the price of the 2023 Legacy?

The 2023 Legacy sedan now comes in five trim levels. The 2023 midsize sedan starts at $25,415 for the base trim, Premium ($27,715), Limited ($32,465), Sport with a new 2.4-liter turbo engine ($34,915), and top-of-the-line Touring XT ($38,715). Destination and delivery fees are included in the pricing above ($1,020).

Subaru is upgrading the 2024 Legacy sedan with new features for customers. Check out the pricing, trim, and new model guide for complete information. The 2024 Legacy arrives for U.S. customers this fall.

Sales of the newly-upgraded 2023 Subaru Legacy midsize sedan were up in April with a slight increase in sales. It's still the best pick for sedan shoppers this spring.

Agreed, the 2023 Subaru Legacy is a great car, and the 2024 model promises to be even better. Subaru will sell more Legacies if they
build more. Inventories on dealer lots are extremely low, which negatively impacts sales. “Build it and they will come.”

Dave, you are absolutely correct. If Subaru would build more Legacy models they would see the hugh interest in them and yes would sell more. I just bought my 2023 Subaru Legacy a couple of months ago and absolutely love it.
