A new 2015 MINI John Cooper Works Hardtop is coming and it will be the most powerful MINI ever produced. It will be coming with the most powerful engine ever installed in one of the brand's production models. It will have exceptional performance and will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month.

How hot is the new MINI JCW?

Power for the new MINI JCW Hardtop is delivered by a 2.0-liter engine that was developed based on the latest generation of power units with MINI TwinPower Turbo technology. The new 2.0-liter develops 228 bhp and 236 lb. ft of torque. This output is now 39 percent more horsepower than the MINI Cooper S, and an increase of 25 percent over the engine in the predecessor model. The increase in output amounts to 10 percent, while the maximum torque is 14 percent higher than before.

BMW says the new hardtop will launch from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds (Manual: 6.1 seconds). That’s an increase in sprint capability of 0.3 seconds (5 percent) as compared to the previous generation John Cooper Works Hardtop. BMW says the elasticity has even been improved by 10 percent and the new JCW will accelerate from 50-75 mph in 5.6 seconds. It will have a maximum speed of 153 mph.

High-performance upgrades

The new MINI John Cooper Works Hardtop will feature a number of high-performance upgrades. It will come with either a 6-speed manual transmission as standard or optional 6-speed Steptronic sports transmission. It also comes with new high-performance Brembo brakes with four-piston front calipers, a high-end sports suspension and a specific sports exhaust system.

On the outside, the new JCW Hardtop will have a new aerodynamically optimized body design. It will feature a front apron with large cooling air inlets, distinctive side sill & rear apron design and a new JCW spoiler on the rear. It rolls on exclusive 17-inch John Cooper Works Race Spoke light alloy wheels. Inside it will come with new performance JCW sports seats.

BMW did not release pricing information for the U.S. market, but it will be priced from 22,865 British Pounds in the UK. The new 2015 MINI John Cooper Works Hardtop will be available late April, 2015.

Don't know if an increase in horsepower is going to do it. The manual transmission in this car is pretty bad. Then there is the ride, choppy to say the least. The quality and ergonomics are questionable as is the reliability, according to some. Wonder what kind of premium over the current "S" or "Works", (which in my opinion are overpriced as it is), you'll have to pay for the extra grunt. Fun weekend car, no doubt, everyday driver, not for my tastes.
