Fasten Your Seat Belts, Subaru Wants To Take You Sky High

Subaru's new all-electric division produces innovations that customers need to know about. Here is a glimpse into where Subaru is going. Buckle up; you will be going sky-high.

Where will Subaru Corporation be going in the future? In a recent story, I covered Subaru's new EVs coming in 2025. I also covered the Japan Mobility Show 2023, but here is more information on Subaru's innovations you may not know.

You are aware of Subaru's first-ever eco-friendly electric Solterra compact SUV, the next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, Impreza, Outback, Forester, and others. I will go beyond its current models and help customers stay connected with Subaru's latest information and future installments.

2024 Subaru Air Mobility Concept Vehicle front view

The future is here now.

The Japanese automaker isn't shying away from their conceptual future in mobility! Subaru attended the Japan Mobility Show 2023 in late October, bringing two concept models rooted in "Enjoyment and Peace of Mind."

You may have read the story I previously covered about Subaru's Sport Mobility Concept Vehicle, which could be a forerunner to a new electric STI. But did you know Subaru could be the first automaker to develop a flying car? It's true; Subaru is working on the technology now in its aerospace division.

Meet Subaru's Air Mobility Concept Vehicle

A report from Competition Subaru sheds more light on the future of Subaru Corporation. "Aviation, electrification, and automotive technologies are constantly advancing. Subaru is fully committed to combining all aspects of technology's most recent innovations to exceed the general public's future expectations for air mobility. This goal of amplifying air travel is Subaru's Air Mobility Revolution."

Meeting Subaru's Air Mobility Concept Vehicle

The report says that with a goal of a future with "more freedom in mobility, Subaru has unabashedly displayed their concepts and collected designs/data openly at the Japan Mobility Show."

Subaru unveiled both aerospace and automotive concepts at the show. Subaru's automotive engineers have worked closely with its aerospace division on the Subaru Air Mobility Concept vehicle and its flight demonstrations.

Why Aerospace?

Did you know that Subaru is very familiar with aerospace engineering? Subaru has been building helicopters under contract for Bell since June of 1960. In 2017 I reported that Subaru's aerospace company designs and manufactures the central wing for the new Boeing 787 aircraft.

Subaru enters the personal aircraft market.

With pre-established roots in the commercial aircraft market, Subaru is one of the best automakers to enter the personal aircraft market. Subaru has been working on the idea for over five years.

I wrote a story about Subaru producing a flying car long before Subaru uncovered the Subaru Air Mobility Concept in October. Japan's Ministry of Economy has tapped Subaru Corporation to help develop the world's first flying car along with Uber and Boeing.

Subaru says, "As electrification and automation technology evolves, expectations are rising for new air mobility that will bring about an "air mobility revolution" in the aviation world, and Subaru's vision for the future of "freer movement" is demonstrated. It is a concept model. Aerospace and automotive engineers are currently working together to conduct flight demonstrations."

It's not if but when Subaru produces a flying car.

The first flying cars will likely be less like a highway-safe automobile and more akin to a glorified drone, "with helicopter-like rotors and room for only one or two people." "It is not a car," Japanese ministry official Hiroyuki Ushijima said. "It is more of a mobility service."

"Flying cars could help relieve traffic congestion on our highways, and they could also improve mobility for people living in remote, mountainous areas and isolated islands and aid in disaster relief," Ushijima said. The Japanese government is calling on familiar names such as Uber Japan, Airbus Japan, Boeing Japan, and Subaru Corporation, which is participating in its capacity as a maker of aircraft and automobiles.

Will the Subaru flying car have electric propulsion?

Subaru did not reveal what would power the Air Mobility Concept Vehicle but don't be surprised if its first flying car has electric propulsion.

Subaru Corporation says that it is more than a car company. Its aerospace division has a new flying car. It's not a fantasy.
