The 5 Best SUVs In Resale Value - Subaru Forester, Crosstrek, Outback Score Top 3

What cars retain their value best? Check out the top SUVs and cars list. The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, Forester, and Outback top the list.

What Subaru models retain their value best? According to Kelly Blue Book, the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, Forester, and Outback are the top three SUVs. The Toyota Highlander and GMC Yukon are number four and five best. The 2021 Subaru Legacy and Impreza are the top two cars on its current list.

A new report from Scott LaPlante from Auto Repair Insider says that with the price of a new car at $38,259, it's even more important to consider value retention when making a car purchase. LaPlante says it's important to keep in mind the factors that compromise why certain cars retain their resale value.

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, Forester, and Outback SUVs tend to keep their value because of their ruggedness, durability, and loyal following. In contrast, luxury vehicles depreciate faster than average due to the cost of maintenance and quick turnover.

Subaru keeps its cars' value high because they keep inventories low, and demand for the all-wheel-drive models remains higher than other crossovers and SUVs. Subaru also offers value with the 2021 Crosstrek Subcompact SUV starting at $22,245, Forester compact SUV $24,795, and Outback wagon/crossover $26,795.

Subaru also takes home the 2020 Best Resale Value Brand of all automakers with the five category winners. Additionally, Subaru wins the top mainstream brand for residual value from ALG. What does it mean for shoppers?

If you plan on keeping your new car for 3-5 years, depreciation (loss of value) is typically your primary expense during ownership. It shows shoppers which vehicle will be the best in resale value.

Subaru's latest accolades let consumers know the Japanese automaker's vehicles retain their value better than all other brands, even Toyota. This can make the most significant difference when you trade in your car after 3-5 years. You'll get more for your trade-in than other carmakers' vehicles.

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, Forester, Outback are top SUVs, and the 2021 Subaru Legacy and Impreza are top cars according to KBB. They are best in value retention, and that can be worth thousands of dollars when you trade your vehicle in for a new model. The 2021 KBB Best Resale Value Awards will be revealed later this month.
