Shelby bringing 2012 GT500 Super Snake to the 2011 NY Auto Show

The Shelby name has a long tradition of show-stoppers at the New York Auto Show but for the 2011 Big Apple show, Shelby is bringing out the new 800 horsepower 2012 GT500 Super Snake.

The 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake is designed to be the ultimate street legal race car, with intensive R&D efforts made on the road course and the drag strip bringing about one of the best performing American muscle cars of all time. The 2012 GT500 Super Snake post-title package is very similar to the 2011 models with a Shelby/Ford Racing/Whipple supercharger boosting the power output to 750 but for 2012, buyers can select an 800 horsepower tune that maintains 50-state legality while running on pump gas (not higher octane race fuel). When you configure a 2012 GT500 Super Snake on the Shelby website, the 800 horsepower package with all other standard features will set you back just under $85,000 out the door – including the $49,000 cost of the 2012 Ford Mustang GT500.

The 2012 GT500 Super Snake is more than just gobs of power, so these limited edition GT500 Mustangs are fitted with a Ford Racing handling package, Shelby 20” wheels, and Shelby/Baer 6-piston front brake calipers wrapped around slotted/drilled rotors with brake cooling ducts. If you want even better handling capabilities, Shelby offers an upgraded suspension package with help from Eibach and similar 6-piston brake calipers for an additional cost. On the outside, the 2012 Super Snake wears similar badging to the previous models with the Super Snake name joining the vicious posed Cobra logo with the unique Super Snake hood and stripes finishing off this subtle appearance package.

In addition to introducing the 2012 GT500 Super Snake at the 2011 NY Auto Show, Shelby American will bring out their limited production 2012 Shelby GT350 coupe and convertible that debuted earlier this year. For more information on the GT350 and new GT500 Super Snake, check out the Shelby American website by clicking here. Shelby has a great “build your own” feature that lets you look through the long list of high performance options for all of the modern Shelby post-title vehicles from braking systems to different supercharger options…giving you an idea of just how much it would cost to build your dream Shelby Mustang.
