Ram Trucks to tease new model online ahead of NY debut

The 2013 SRT Viper is the big news from the Chrysler Group headed into the 2012 New York Auto Show but beginning tomorrow, the Ram Truck brand will begin teasing a new model of its own on Twitter and Facebook ahead of the public debut set for April 5th.

The Ram Truck brand made a fairly subtle announcement today that, beginning tomorrow (March 31st), the automaker will begin posting images that are “not easily identifiable” will be posted on the Ram Twitter and Facebook pages with an invitation for fans to make guesses as to what is debuting on April 5th. This gradual tease, titled by the Ram Truck brand “A Giant Awaits” will run until the new Ram Truck debuts the day after the SRT brand debuts their new Viper supercar.

In addition to the announcement that the Ram Truck brand would be teasing their new model each day leading up to the April 5th debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show, the hard-working brand issued a single image which is shown above on the right. As you can see, we see a chrome grille, the chrome Ram logo and a grille mesh that has a bright silver, upscale look with a series of ovals designed to give a solid look while allowing plenty of air to enter the engine bay for supreme cooling. This tightly cropped image doesn’t give us much idea as to whether we will be seeing a new Ram 1500 or a heavy duty Ram 2500/3500 but based on this first teaser image – we would guess that this new Ram pickup will be some sort of luxury or upscale model. A similar grille filler is already featured on the Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn but the Heavy Duty models use a standard horizontal bar grille so perhaps the 1500 Laramie Longhorn grille is finding its way onto a new upscale Ram HD model.

The Ford Motor Company recently debuted their high end Super Duty Platinum, adding a heavy dose of luxury finishes and amenities to Ford’s F250 and F350 so it would make good sense for the Chrysler Group to counter with a new luxury truck of their own. In any case, there should be another teaser posted on the Ram Trucks Facebook page (provided that the image above isn’t going to be tomorrow’s image) so we could soon have a better guess as to what is coming to the Ram Truck brand at the 2012 New York Auto Show. Between tomorrow and the April 5th debut – we should see as many as 6 teaser images of the upcoming Ram pickup.
