Volkswagen has recalled several models due to the possibility that a rear coil spring may fracture and damage one of the tires. If this were to happen, it is possible that the damage could cause handling issues that could lead to a crash.

Volkswagen Identifies Vehicles Recalled

According to paperwork filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the carmaker has recalled the following vehicles:

  • 2018-19 Volkswagen Atlas
  • 2015 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen
  • 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Volkswagen has notified 6,322 vehicle owners of the possible problem. The automaker began sending owners notification cards at the end of January. The issue with the rear springs is that while you may be able to control things when you are used to the problem if it occurs, and you don’t expect it, it is possible that the vehicle could be thrown out of control which can lead to poor handling and a crash.

Repairs Program Is Free

Owners of the three vehicles can set up appointments to bring their cars into service for the free repairs. Dealers will replace the rear axle coil springs.
