2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Drives Off With Its First Big Award

The all-new 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer wins top honors in an important regional competition.

When Jeep announced its all-new large 2022 Grand Wagoneer, it said that it was putting its competitors on notice that it would take the premium SUV category to a new level. Now, the 2022 Grand Wagoneer has been named the ‘SUV of Texas’ at the Annual Texas Truck Rodeo. It has been a banner event for Ram and Jeep. I reported earlier that the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX was Crowned Texas Truck of the Year.

Texas is a huge market for both trucks and large SUVs. There is a lot of ground to cover and with many people spending long hours either out on ranches or traveling long distances between smaller cities, comfort is king. The new Grand Wagoneer won two top prizes. It receives top honor as SUV of Texas and wins the Full-size Luxury SUV category. The Grand Wagoneer’s smaller sibling, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer drives home with the title of Full-size SUV of Texas. When all of the awards were added up, Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis, took home the most awards of any automaker.

“The 2022 Grand Wagoneer truly impressed our members. The attention to detail, luxury materials, integrated design, and the capability and technology is indeed setting a new benchmark for the full-size Luxury SUV segment,” said Kristin Shaw, President of TAWA. “Ram trucks also brought their A-game, winning several consecutive awards. Texas auto writers are true connoisseurs of pickup trucks so Ram’s honors are well deserved. We also enjoyed the lineup from Jeep with several vehicles that were the stars of their categories, offering capability, craftsmanship and versatility.”

Wagoneer, Ram and Jeep Texas Honors Include:

  • SUV of Texas: 2022 Grand Wagoneer
  • Full-size Luxury SUV of Texas: 2022 Grand Wagoneer Series III
  • Full-size SUV of Texas: 2022 Wagoneer

  • Full-size Pickup Truck: 2022 Ram 1500
  • Heavy Duty Pickup Truck: 2022 Ram 2500 Power Wagon
  • Luxury Pickup Truck: 2021 Ram 1500 TRX
  • Off-Road Vehicle: 2021 Ram 1500 TRX

Every year, the Texas Auto Writers Association organizes an event for its writers to test and rate the latest vehicles. This year’s Truck Rodeo was held at Star Hill Ranch in Bee Cave, Texas, featuring both on-road and technical off-road driving opportunities. Fifty trucks and SUVs were reviewed.
