Lucid’s introduction of its Gravity SUV shows how choosing the right EV is no longer just about range or price. It now comes down to how well a vehicle balances performance, comfort, and everyday practicality. Here’s the reaction to its launch and how the Gravity compares to the Kia EV9, Rivian R1S, and Tesla Model X in the race to become the ultimate family EV.

The newly released Lucid Gravity is getting a lot of buzz and seems to have captured the elusive “cool factor.” A recent TikTok video about the Gravity by itskimjava that went viral by describing it as the Swiss Army knife for Soccer Moms. Comments were very supportive. One TikTok user posted:

“I’ve never wanted an SUV until now. My kids are loud, messy, and allergic to quiet, but this thing makes me think I could survive a road trip and still feel chic.”

Responding to a post by nefcom13, TonkaToca humorously points out the affordability gap in the EV market. nefcom13 posted:

“I have a 2011 ford explorer and minivan that do all of this”

TonkaToca responded with:

“They didn’t design this vehicle for you buddy – LOL”

There are a lot of comments like this from Pitiful-Voyage about how the leather flap makes it really comfortable hang out on the Gravity’s “frunk porch”:

“The frunk leather bench with cupholders and immersive experience ambient lighting synced LEDs are things people remember, along with 3 spacious rows.”

The Lucid Gravity entered the U.S. family SUV market in late April 2025, starting with the Grand Touring trim package. This trim level offers 828 horsepower, a 450-mile EPA range, NACS Supercharger compatibility, and a base price of about $94,900. A more affordable Touring trim, starting around $79,900, is expected to follow later in 2025. Lucid also plans to release a high-end Dream Edition priced above $139,000, though it will be produced in limited quantities. Built with a luxury first approach and cutting-edge performance, the Gravity lineup features a proprietary 900-volt electrical architecture that enables ultra-fast charging, adding over 200 miles in about 11 minutes under optimal conditions. It also integrates rear motor boost charging to more efficiently distribute current. Inside, the Gravity offers three rows of seating, a minimalist yet upscale cabin, and a panoramic glass roof, combining sleek design with practical cargo space for families seeking both style and utility.

By contrast, the Kia EV9 offers the most budget-friendly entry among three row electric SUVs, starting around $54,900. Built on Hyundai Kia’s E GMP platform, it features 800 volt charging capability, allowing for quick energy top ups and wide charger compatibility including NACS support. The Rivian R1S starts at roughly $78,000 and emphasizes adventure ready design with its quad motor setup, independent wheel control, and off-road tuning, ideal for active families. Tesla’s Model X, beginning around $79,990, prioritizes software with Full Self Driving capabilities, access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, and unique Falcon Wing doors. While the Model X leans heavily on tech integration, the R1S champions versatility, and the EV9 maximizes value. In this landscape, the Gravity positions itself as a refined, family focused EV with superior charging, thoughtful design, and long-range comfort.

The Lucid Gravity is shaping a narrative that goes beyond technical specifications by aligning itself with lifestyle identity. Lucid is clearly striving for a mix of versatility, elegance, and everyday utility. With seating for seven, fast charging, and a sleek design, the Gravity appeals to families who want a stylish, capable vehicle with cutting edge tech that complements their routines and values. While the cost places it out of reach for many, its blend of function and luxury reflects how EVs are increasingly seen as personal statements. In a market that still grapples with infrastructure gaps and economic barriers, the Gravity illustrates how emotional appeal and premium branding continue to shape consumer interest.

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room – price. Affordability remains a central challenge in the electric vehicle market, with U.S. EV adoption slowing partly due to cost. While the average EV price hovers around $58,000, only 5 percent of middle-income households earning between $40,000 and $99,999 own an EV, compared to 42 percent of owners making over $200,000. The Lucid Gravity enters this landscape with a starting price of $79,900 for the Touring trim and climbs up to $139,000 for the upcoming Dream Edition. These prices firmly position the Gravity in the luxury tier, making it aspirational for most families rather than broadly accessible. As debates continue around equity, tax incentives, and who truly benefits from EV progress, the Gravity highlights the widening divide between innovation and affordability in the U.S. market.
