Honda performance sweeps Indy 500 opening day practice

Marco Andretti led a Honda powered 4 car sweep under perfect weather conditions on the opening practice day of the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Monday was a monumental day for Andretti Autosport and HPD (Honda Performance Development) as Marco Andretti led a 1-2-3-4 position sweep as to fastest lap times, with 7 out of the top 10 fastest lap times posted by Honda powered IndyCars. This driver is intent on an Indy 500 win.

While a bit too early to predict the outcome of the 110th running of the “Brickyard” classic, it’s reassuring for Honda Fans to see Chevrolet powered teams dropping back a bit.

Indianapolis is home for Andretti Autosport

In the words of Marco Andretti: "Definitely a good start for the entire team. With the weather [forecast] we moved some of our [practice] plans up a few days. I definitely know how this month goes, it's a roller coaster, but this was a good first day. These were picture-perfect conditions today. Next week will likely be warmer, so it's too early to read much into things today. I think we'll see more of the way things will play out in the next several days. As always in Indy car, there are 10-15, or more, potential winners in the field here."

Monday's opening practice "Top 10" was dominated by Honda power, something thats happened rarely in 2016.
