The Tesla Model Y Is The Best Selling Car - Only the Tesla Compact Will Dethrone It

The Tesla Model Y is an incredible vehicle and is the bestseller in the world this year. It will also be the bestseller in the world for years to come. It will take the Tesla compact car to dethrone it.

Tesla Model Y - A Best Seller For Years To Come

The Tesla Model Y is truly a spectacular vehicle. It is the best combination of performance, space, and being a Tesla EV with the most advanced driver assist software and safety features. The only downside to it is that it is more expensive than the Model 3 - that is, until a strange scenario occurs next year when the Model 3 RWD and Long Range lose the EV tax credit.

Next year, the Model 3 RWD and Model 3 Long Range will be more expensive than the Model Y Long Range and Model Y Standard Range, and I think this will cause Tesla to lower the prices of the Model 3 and raise the price of the Model Y over time.

Back to the Model Y - it is the best-selling vehicle in 2023 and is projected to beat the Toyota Corolla in total sales. This will be the first time an EV has taken first place in worldwide car sales.

The Model Y should sell about 1.2 million units.

The Model Y also has its "Juniper" variant that is coming out in China in 2024, and I expect to see a new battery in it. The new Model Y should also have many of the features that the Model 3 Highland has, such as:

  • More aerodynamic
  • No stalks
  • Higher range
  • Improve Sound
  • Better headlights (Matrix LED)
  • New wheel designs
  • Better camera hardware (hardware 4)

How Long Will the Model Y Be King?

The Model Y will be the king of worldwide sales for years to come. I think it won't be until 2027 when the compact car reaches the end of its first volume year of production that it overtakes the Model Y.

I expect the Model Y to surpass 2 million units sold per year and level off around there. This is a great number for Tesla and if Tesla can get the Model 3 to around 1 million units per year by bringing the Highland variant to the U.S. and getting Cybertruck volume to 500,000, that lineup of vehicles will get Tesla through 2025.

However, during 2026, Tesla will need to have the compact car just about ready to release and get it to volume production by the end of 2026/2027 at which point, the Model Y will be left in the dust by the compact car, which should do 2 million units from each of Tesla's primary Gigafactories.

I expect, once all Tesla Gigafactories are complete with construction, that each will build 2 million units for a grand total of 10 million compact cars per year.

Some might think this is a joke because no vehicle has ever done this before - however, by that time, Tesla FSD should be autonomous, and there will be a "land grab" to buy the compact car and have your own autonomous robotaxi that can make money for you while you sleep. Tesla, just make sure you have an automated camera cleaning solution.
